Guest Post by Akasha Garnier on the 2017 #Oscars

~ Celebrate What it is to Live a Life ~

Gracias Alfonzo Words for sharing your blogging journey and your recent 200K Page Views per month milestone and success! I am grateful to have shared great social media fun with our coloring image contest, cover reveal, movie and foodie tags, giveaways and live launch for #ShineThroughTheNoise . I am continuing to connect the dots to bring my travel thriller series “Davanti” to the page and silver screen. I am also in talks with adding a sequel to my first indie film, Influence . In the meantime, I will be gathering success stories like Alfonzo Words and some friends and travelers who have put #ShineThroughTheNoise into practice for personal and professional growth. I am still donating 10% of proceeds to my Chicago and LA charity partner: Teen Cancer AmericaWe will be announcing more community events together in the near future!
With the precedent and political climate set during the 2017 awards season, film aficionados and fashionistas were wondering what #Oscars2017 would bring.

#Oscars2017 ~ Celebrate What it is to Live a Life

Are the Academy Awards representing style or substance? Frequently Oscar movies are about deep subjects and historical journeys, but this year present several new ideas to consider. Many saw "La La Land" as a paean to old Hollywood and the zany lives of many Angelenos in the film industry. Some called it "frothy" and wondered if escapism would prevail, or if the Oscars would play it straight and serious by paying homage to "Moonlight" as Best Picture?

Voila, now we all know what happened next. The Oscar stage and the ballot counts, cast upset as a new norm.

Emma Stone on the Oscars red carpet, shortly before her win for Best Actress. We could see the metallic trend taking shape, accented by political points in pin form.
Emma Stone in Givenchy Haute Couture by Ricardo Tisci/Getty Images.
The Huffington Post framed it on point: "Emma Stone will be the least disappointed of the La La Land crew, having scored a triple win: an Oscar, a Planned Parenthood pin, and one of the best dresses of the night. The gold, fluid-fringed Givenchy gown looked like a more evolved, more expensive version of the yellow dress which Stone wears in La La Land, and it is fitting to stay in character–this is an acting prize, after all."
Viola Davis was the one to beat they said. Here she's poised in Armani Prive.
She went on to become the first black woman to win an Oscar, Emmy, and Tony award for acting.
See all the dresses from this year's red carpet.
Check out the men on the red carpet.

As the red carpet parade was underway, K. Patrick Tutera and I were having a photoshoot and catching up on our arrival with photographer and suave driver in tow. Extra thank you and toast to Bre and the Hollywood Roosevelt guest relations team who reached out to make sure we had built in enough travel time and knew arrival protocol.
As the red carpets were winding down. Patrick and I had a chance to catch some candids in character on our way to the Oscars soiree.

Akasha, all dressed up with somewhere wonderful to go! (Photos: Devin Green unless listed otherwise. Akasha's hair by Lisett Munoz and make-up by Alex of Killer Hair.)
Chauffeured ride paired with truffle pate and Ferrari-Carano.

Patrick Tutera took this photo in the library and then I took the ones of him above and below.
There were smiles, and I believe we both wear our dimples well. I respect that Patrick is an actor and filmmaker, so we did get a serious one as well. Gotta love the custom tux he purchased for this evening! Well played, bello.

The Blossom Ballroom gourmet soiree was sponsored by Piper champagne. the official champagne of The Oscars. When I asked Bre Smith from the Roosevelt and Blossom Ballroom team if she had a favorite course from the evening's menu, she said: "I'm a champagne girl. As long as there's champagne, everything else is secondary!" She also told me that they knew the dinner should be held in one room - the main event with the grand space where the first Oscars' guest gathered. AND they are gearing up for even more special celebrations as they get ready for the 90th Academy Awards.

Patrick and I both had reasons to celebrate with the his "The Last Hurrah" film festival track and my
#ShineThroughTheNoise book and branding projects reaching 9 countries and winning Marcom awards. I truly appreciate that we both have things to celebrate. #Truth - the Piper champagne was fantastic! We also both really enjoyed the prime rib carving station and extra tender chicken with sundried tomato.

We both tweeted some highlights from the show (without becoming completely glued to our phones, fortunately). Give Patrick's gamesmanship a look and a follow. (Last Hurrah Film) I am sure we will both have new things to share and celebrate soon!
Check out the foreshadowing and stills from the Best Picture debacle.

I will leave you with some wisdom from an outstanding speech:

Viola Davis, best supporting actress winner, Fences

"There’s one place that all the people with the greatest potential are gathered – that’s the graveyard. People ask me all the time, what kind of stories do you want to tell, Viola? And I say exhume those bodies, exhume those stories, the stories of the people dream big and never saw those dreams to fruition, people who fell in love and lost. I became an artist and thank God I did, because we are the only profession that celebrates what it is to live a life. Here’s to August Wilson, who exhumed, and exalted, the ordinary people."

Thank you again Enricoh, and blogging community for this guest author opportunity. I'll see you on the flipside. :)

Cheers & fair winds,

~Akasha Lin

Reese Witherspoon: 5 Lessons You Taught Me

Aloha!

Half way through the week & it's #WednesdayWisdom
You know that means, right? Today I take someone influential and share just 5 Epic Life Lessons they have to offer us. And few are more influential than Mademoiselle Reese Witherspoon.
She's Walked the Line, Stayed Wild & Legally enchanted the hearts of millions of people all around the world with her Tennessee charm, big heart and radiant smile. Forgot Not we shall her acting & singing talents. #Madskills

Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon  (/ˈriːs ˈwɪðərspuːn/; born March 22, 1976) is an American actress and producer. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana and raised in Tennessee, Witherspoon began her career as a child actress. Witherspoon's breakthrough role was playing Elle Woods in the 2001 film Legally Blonde, for which she received international recognition.

In 2005, Witherspoon received worldwide attention for her portrayal of June Carter in Walk the Line, which earned her the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, BAFTA Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and the Critics Choice Award for Best Actress.

Mademoiselle Witherspoon is voicing the character Rosita in the 2016 animated feature film, SING. She plays a domestic pig, who gave up her teenage music dreams to become a devoted wife of Norman, & mother to 25 piglets.

5 Lessons Reese Witherspoon Taught Me

5. Reading is Sexy
{#Bookconcierge NPR 2016 Best Books List}
Get shopping🙃

"I get crazy in a bookstore. It makes my heart beat hard because I want to buy everything."~ Reese Witherspoon

She's been featured on multiple accounts as one of the sexiest women on the planet.
So iptofacto if she is so in Love with reading then prestofineto Reading is Sexy!

Books are mankind's greatest invention in all of history. Nothing can heal, soothe, fix, mend, repair, reap, elate, encourage, tickle, beat, become, teach, impress, transport, catch & awaken you the way a book can. It is our supreme honor and responsibility that we ensure Books & reading continue through future generations.

She is an avid reader and has a film production company dedicated to bringing best selling books to screen: Pacific Standard Film: READ Article Here
She recently produced the critically acclaimed Gone Girl and I'm sure we all remember how gripping that movie was. Brrrrrr{goosebumps}~ the chills.

4. Women Crush
Wednesday
{I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours😊}

"Many people worry so much about managing their careers, but rarely spend half that much energy managing their lives. I want to make my life, not just my job, the best it can be. The rest will work itself out."~ Reese Witherspoon

“For women in this business, ascendancy is always a battle. It’s scrape and claw. I just try to stick to my guns and respect myself. I want to take the ingenues aside and say, ‘value yourself’! It’s okay if you have opinions!”~ Reese Witherspoon

Life is what happens when you forget to LIVE. Don't use your ambition, your career, your goals as an excuse for not experiencing all that life has to offer you. There is true beauty, true passion & true magic out there. You need only take the time to discover it.

3. Selfie Selflessly Self-Love
{Try sayin' that 5 times fast}

"There's no bad consequence to loving fully, with all your heart. You always gain by giving love."~ Reese Witherspoon

How often are we told, "don't wear your heart on your sleeve."
How often are we cautioned against falling in love, too hard and too fast.
Many people say money is what makes the world go round, but I believe it is Love. Love is in everything worth having. Your dream partner, your dream house, your dream career, even your dream weight...can only be achieved through genuine Love in all it's forms and shapes.

Almost Every blockbuster movie or bestselling book has a Love story.
Better to have Love & Lost than to have never loved at all. No other emotion, no other experience can trump what you feel when you feel Real, honest to goody-goodness Love.
LOVE is ALL.

2. Ridiculous Work Ethic
{Don't reach for the stars if ya ain't willin' to build the rocket ship}

“I like work. If it’s not hard enough, I try to make it harder. I like the process of being daunted by it, tackling it and knowing I can do it.”~ Reese Witherspoon

Now that we've covered the essentials of Readin', Livin' & Lovin'.
We get down to what galvanizes them all together and allows you to rise above all else. To conquer, to achieve.
Ridiculous work ethic.
Ridiculous.

Will Smith, who portrays Muhammad in the 2001 film titled Ali had this to say on the matter:

"I've never viewed myself as particularly talented. I've viewed myself as…slightly above average in talent. Where I excel is with a ridiculous, sickening work ethic. While the other guy's sleeping, I'm working. While the other guy's eating, I'm working. While the other guy's making love, I mean, I'm making love, too, but I'm working really hard at it!"

“I’m Not afraid to die on a treadmill. I will not be outworked. Period. You might have more talent than me. You might be smarter than me. And you may be sexier than me. But if we get on a treadmill together there’s two things that’ll happen. You are going to get off first or I’m going to die. It’s really that simple. I’m not going to be outworked.”

Personal Experience: Put in that effort, your actions become habit and once they do ain't nothing gonna stop ya.

1. Stay WILD
{Feel the motion of the Ocean. Action creates reaction}

“Doing begets more doing. It sounds simple, but I’m a firm believer that action can solve so many worries, and just powering through, no matter what, can give you the confidence you need when you feel like you’ve got nothing to offer.”~ Reese Witherspoon

We live in a world where it is just One complaint after another. There's no end to the stream of people who are constantly complaining about their lives, the world around them and the other people in it. All they want is for you to listen to them, interact with them and become just another negative nelly.
Who would you rather listen to?
The person who wants everything but does nothing to achieve it OR The person who has everything and was wiling to do anything to achieve it???

The only way through is... Through!
As Han says in Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift. There's no hard or fast way of learning how to Drift. You learn by doing it.
And in the infamous words of Nike
JUST DO IT!

My All-Star mentor and friend Akasha Garnier was the one who intro'd me to Reese's inspirational & influential side. And when your mentor is inspired by someone you make sure you pay attention to who that could be.
Akasha's book Secrets to Shine Through the Noise references Reese's influence and quotes. It's a MUST READ self-improvement book. Glowing reviews can be found throughout this blog.

Reese recently ran a twitter campaign with the Hashtag  in honor of her movie WILD. Akasha joined in the fun and here was Reese's response:
Author/screenwriter Akasha Garnier mentions:
"Reese Witherspoon has a stellar sense of shine on several levels: I appreciate that she shows her strength, beauty and Southern charm as she inspires women and girls of all ages. She is book smart and willing to act on it!"

Her newest venture "Hello Sunshine" will launch in 2017 with ATT Direct TV.

"As we continue the journey of creating engaging entertainment for and about women at Hello Sunshine, it's exciting to have a partner in AT&T who shares that commitment with us. We can't wait to bring the Hello Sunshine channel to life with DIRECTV and DIRECTV NOW customers in 2017," said Witherspoon.

#REVIEW ~ Secrets to #ShineThroughtheNoise

Complimenti epica per il mio amico e mentore Akasha Garnier!!!

Woooohoooo!!! Help me congratulate my friend & mentor Akasha Garnier on the official release of her motivational book, Secrets to Shine Through the Noise. As writers we all dream of getting published in some form or the other, so this is a massive accomplishment.
Follow Akasha & me to join us in celebration today on twitter.
It's been worth the wait & now the sale of #ShineThroughtheNoise goes live today!

Today I'm featuring one of my very best friends, in her unbelievably awesome review of the book. This is her first-time guest blogging but she pulls it off with flawless ease and passion.

Benita Govender is an optometrist, the reason for this career choice is because she wanted to help people on a daily basis. She is passionate about her job and thrives on it. Her family and friends mean the world to her. One of her hobbies is reading, she loves to learn new things. Reading also allows her to delve into new worlds and get lost in them.

Hello, Hello all you fantastically amazing individuals.

Today I not only have the honor of being featured on Alfonzo Words hot blog spot, but I have the absolute privilege to speak about Akasha Garnier's brilliant book: Secrets to Shine Through the Noise.
The awesome cover for this book was revealed right here on Alfonzo Words and was so worth the wait!

Cover Reveal: Shine Through the Noise

In this incredible book, Akasha shows us how to step out of boxes which society has put us in and embrace our individuality. She teaches us to SHINE.

"Shining is natural. It's that connection that makes you smile and the light bulb that goes on that makes us get up"

With the simple exercises, activities and steps laid out to assist you; not only will you be able to get what you WANT out of life but you will also discover new things about yourself along the way. The sky is the limit and this book has shown me how any of us have the ability to reach it.

At every turn, there is new inspiration and motivation but the one thing that sticks with me is that your age is irrelevant. Akasha speaks of how you can create new goals and reach them - at any age. Only we hold ourselves back.

I was surprised to find how simple the exercises were and yet have such an impact. I found coloring to be very therapeutic.

Reading these secrets has been a magnificent learning for me. I have always wanted to travel but having reached my academic goals, I became a creature of habit and comfort. Now I have new goals. To travel and to be more open to trying new things. To be more accepting of change.

Akasha says we need to eliminate the word "can't" and every day, I find myself doing just that. I've also begun to spend less time on social media just as she suggested and I find I have more time to be productive and accomplish my smaller daily goals.

There is a brilliant exercise to help you start moving forward. It's one of my favorites, as it helps you to "get into the driver's seat". Not only does it help to remind you of your positive traits, but it also allows you to learn more about yourself as a person. We are our own worst critics but this exercise helps you focus on your strengths and work on that.

Here is my favorite image from Secrets to Shine Through the Noise, is the signed hi-res Travel coloring image I received from Akasha:

It shows you reaping your rewards, in a way. Like all that hard work is paying off.

This book surpasses all distinctions we humans have created to divide us and calls out to every person to improve their lives and to do so at a pace which suits them.
Not only is it beneficial to each and every one of us, but 10% of proceeds from this book will be donated to Teen Cancer America.

I am most certainly going to get my family and friends to read this life-changing book. We have just this one life so let's SHINE, bright and bold.

Akasha also has a thriller trilogy which will be coming out and I for one cannot wait to get my hands on those books!

A HUGE thank you to Akasha for allowing me to read Secrets to Shine Through the Noise and Alfonzo Words for featuring me on this awesome blog. The support I have received from the both of you is greatly appreciated.

Movie Tag: SendCake Films

Inspire. Write. Create.TM

It's the start of a new week & I know that we could all use some great #MondayMotivation and a good laugh.
Watch one of my all time favorite motivational songs

Feeling more confident to tackle the day, even the week now, don't ya?
Awesome, thanks to Akasha Garnier who graced us with the first brilliant Movie Tag here on the blog, I was able to meet the outstandingly talented Andy of SendCake Films or as I like to call him, "Goose" :-)
His journey is simply awe-inspiring and filled with golden nuggets. ENjoy!

Meet Andy of SendCake Films

Andy’s voice makes him sound like he should be on a US TV drama series - where that Englishman is the evil villain driving a Jaguar. In the real world, he’s not a villain. Andy is fanatical about filmmaking, writing and photography, but would still quite like that Jag. He trained as a teacher and started writing a novel in the middle of his finals at university, when he couldn’t sleep. Eventually Andy moved to London for a job and took up photography. He wrote his first full-length screenplay over the course of about 7 years. While waiting for feedback on that script he got bored and decided to write and direct a short film… and so his filmmaking obsession was born.

Andy is really proud of the work he’s done with photography, where he focuses on performance and portrait work. He’s has had photographs published in various national newspapers, photography and life style magazine, theatre programs and websites. When Andy moved towards filmmaking he teamed up with the photographer who taught Andy everything he knows about taking a great photo. That photographer became Andy’s DoP for two shorts. The brief Andy gave him was ‘I want that feel and style and look you give your photographs, but moving.’ The results were fantastic. At that point Andy realized that as long as you can surround yourself with experts with a ‘can do’ attitude, you can probably do anything you set your heart on.

Andy acknowledges he really is only at the start of his adventures in filmmaking. He continues to write, produce and direct and has also started working with other writers, offering feedback and advice on their screenplays. People did so for him, so he feels it’s good and right and also fun, to pay forward the same favor.

Andy is slightly obsessed with cake. He likes to think he invented the hashtag #SendCake and #CakeJoy. The latter being what he gets from filmmaking, helping others and well… cake. The former actually now being his production company name SendCake Films.

·        What is the worst Apocalyptic scenario you have seen in movie/TV show?
The scenes in ‘Kingsman Secret Service’ where Samuel L Jackson’s character turns on the phone signal that makes people go nuts. The violence is Apocalyptic, if left unchecked. It’s terrifying. But the scene that really gets me is; where the toddler is locked in the bathroom and its nuts mother is trying to break down the door to kill her (in the style of Nicholson in ‘The Shining’). An amazing bit of writing.
·        What’s your favorite genre?
I call myself a film slut. I love everything. If I had to get specific and chose say something I’d watch on a Friday night - In film I love a good black comedy. On TV I am a huge fan of things like ‘Castle’, ‘24’, ‘The Blacklist’ and ‘Fringe’.
·        In what movie/TV series would you like to replace the main character?
Yikes. I’m not sure I could do that. If I don’t like a character it will be because someone wrote them a specific way for a specific reason. Maybe I’m not supposed to like them? I guess the only character I’d like to replace would be the beast in the fist ‘Jeepers  Creepers’. I’d never let the audience see it. The film’s opening is fantastic and scary and gripping. Right up till you see the beast… then it looses its scare.

·        Do you believe in happy endings?
Yes. Do I believe all TV or films need to end happily? No.
·        Which movie represents the best love story?
The last Toy Story film. Sometimes the best love story isn’t about boy meets girl etc etc. It can be about family and friendship, long-standing relationships and sometimes being able to let go.
·        Which movie was the Best representation of a book?
The Neverending Story (Die unendliche Geschichte) by Michael Ende . The book was amazing – the film just beautiful.
·        What do you consider a “binge-worthy” TV series?
HIMYM (How I met Your Mother), Bones, Fringe, Dexter.
·        Do you get emotionally attached to characters?
Yes. Both to love and hate.
·        Do you get emotional while watching TV Series or Movies?
Yes. But if you tell anyone I’ll deny everything.
·        If you had to choose a main character from a TV series/movie to come save you, who would you choose?
Raymond Reddington from ‘The Blacklist’. It would be an action fuelled rescue but there’d be cigars and luxury at the end.
·        Who was your childhood Hollywood crush?
Daphne Zuniga as seen in ‘The Sure Thing’ with John Cusack.
·        Which popular shows do you think are overrated?
Don’t hate me – Game of Thrones.  I turn over when it comes on.
·        Which movie/TV series centralized around one of your favorite cars??
Has to be ‘Knight Rider’ – who wouldn’t want a Kit looking after you?
·        Which movie do you think deserves a sequel the most?
Spies Like Us. If it could be as amazing as the first… which I doubt. I’m not a big fan of sequels.
·        Which movie would you like to see a prequel of?
Inception – though again I doubt it could be as good. Not a fan again. It’s normally only about making money at this point.. is how I feel anyway.
·        Which TV series would you love to revive?
"The Professionals" (1977 TV series in the UK). Just simple cops and bad guys lead by three contrasting characters. Great stuff.
·        What’s your favorite mythical creature / monster from movie / TV series?
The thing in John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’. First horror I saw when underaged. Scared the hell out of me.
·        Who’s your favorite director?
Paul Greengrass - Recently directed Captain Phillips with Tom Hanks
·        Do you prefer older movies or movies with a lot of CGI?
I don’t really mind. Bad CGI ruins a film, though. I think I prefer older movies – if that means story driven ones.
·        Who’s your favorite actor?
Javier Bardem. His acting ability is phenomenal. I’d love to write something for him one day!
·         Which Indie Movie is your favorite & why?
‘My First Mister’. A simple but real life concept-driven film, amazing acting, a story line you can relate to and no CGI. A wonderful example of what indie cinema could be like.
·        If you had just One message, One Golden nugget to share with other Adventurers/Writers out there. What would that be?
Stop planning. Start doing.
Quickfire:
24.  Movie vs. TV Series
Movies
25. Anime vs. Reality TV
Anime
26. Antique road show vs. Car show (Top Gear)
Car Show
27. Horror vs. Comedy

Exciting News from Andy:

We’ve just gone into preproduction on the film that took me 7 years to write, which is very exciting. I say we – the company who helped produce my first short – SevenSeas Productions in Canada in the form of James Highet is producing it and I am doing my best to help! I decided not to direct it as I think to raise the money we’d need to get it made, investors would need a more experienced director. We found a talented theatre and film director called Ian Hylands to direct.

It’s a British romcom called PhatNav. It’s about a withdrawn, shy and anonymous voice over artist (with the most heard voice in the world) who falls in love with a free-spirited heiress, who in turn is being pursued by a sleazy fortune hunter.

It’s similar in style to ‘Notting Hill’.

At this stage we have found couple of very talented actors for supporting roles, an experienced casting director in Canada (Tamara Shelley of TLS Casting) and a 2016 Oscar nominated producer who seem to be interested in helping us get the project going - which is fantastic. We just started looking for a lead actor – where the voice will be paramount – and other support cast. We’ve a big social media campaign planned, including chances to make some big decisions for us and to win days on set watching filming.

Overall – it’s slightly terrifying. But I’m trying to learn from my short experience thus far in filmmaking and surrounding myself by experts who are unconscious competent: Those who know what they are doing, without having to think about it.
