Actor Tag: Keeping Up with the Kandasamys Madhushan Singh

Happy Friday Dance yo!

I'm super jazzed, honored and excited about today's post!!!

This month I'd been hearing alot of buzz from my friends and family regarding a locally produced movie Keeping Up with the Kandasamys.
I have to admit I was a tad resistant at first as I haven't enjoyed an Indian production in a long time, nevertheless after the movie hit 4 Million at the box office in the first two weeks, I just had to go see it.
I LOVED THE MOVIE SO MUCH!!!
And coming from ME that's saying something, ask anyone. I was blown away from start to finish. By the acting, the comedy, the quality, the presence and ofcourse the storyline.

So the actor I'm privileged to feature today plays Prishen Naidoo in the movie and does an amazing job of bringing the character to life. There's this scene in the car & in the rain, that really gets to you and he slays it in spades!

  • An Actor, Voice over artist and Fitness junkie from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal
  • He was also Radio Jock for 13 years at a community station and 2 years of radio drama for SABC.
  • Acting Credits:
1. White Gold (feature film)
2. Rights of passage (art house)
3. Keeping up with the                                               Kandasamys

Keeping up with the Kandasamys

First question, how did you keep a straight face on screen when all the comedy was happening?
  • It was so difficult not to Crack when the scenes were rolling. The dialogue was hilarious and the delivery was perfect. I used to pinch my leg control myself.

How did you find out about the movie and what was the process like to get the role of Prishen Naidoo?
  • It was advertised on social media platforms that this audition was happening and I contacted the production and booked my slot. Prishen was a clean cut gentlemen attached with a phrase “Mr shy guy” so I had to be very sweet and shy, always clean shaven and neat hair. I also spent time with medical students to understand the little nuances that make them unique, I was playing a younger Guy so my energy levels had to be slightly higher and more engaging and just madly in love with the girl next door.
Your co-star Mishqah Parthiephal plays your love interest, Jodi Kandasamy. What was it like filming all those iconic romance scenes?
  • It’s never easy to create romantic love scenes on camera, there’s 40 people around you and a camera in your face, so being cast opposite Mishqah was just fantastic. I’ve worked with her in 3 films already over a period of 7 years so our synergy was brilliant and we share a deep love for film so it was really nice to create these cinematic iconic moments of young love. She’s amazingly talented and a dear friend.
As with anyone in the creative industry, rejections plays a big part in our lives. How do you deal with it?
  • Rejection is the most common part of being in this industry, it’s not for the faint hearted so you have to be tough, accept it and either better your talents or better your craft. You cannot sit back and lament over things. You have to keep moving.

***
16. What has been your biggest achievement so far?

  • I think I’m the only young Indian actor in South African with 2 feature films under the belt.
17. Music uplifts our mood, What is your go-to song when you need a pick me up?

  • 2 pac – Hit em up….Haha no I’m just kidding, it’s Chai ya Chai ya from Dilse.

18. When you do win an Oscar one day, who’s the one person you would take with you?

  • My mother, she’s a huge Meryl Streep fan.
19. What is your favorite inspirational quote?

  • “The best moments I’ve lived are the ones I forgot to take pictures off”

20. If there was just one nugget of wisdom you could share, what would that be?
  • Be respectful, be humble and give everyone as much love as you can, the world needs more love.

Keeping up with the Kandasamys is a rib-tickling family comedy about two matriarchs of neighbouring families whose young adult children become romantically involved, and despite their best efforts to keep them apart, they are forced to acknowledge that in the end “love will always prevail.” Just how far will one go to serve one's own selfish needs? And will they learn that in the end, it really is just happiness that matters? It’s a case of “love they neighbour…but don’t get caught.”

I; Enricoh Alfonzo; undoubtedly, vehemently, and whole-heartedly recommend this movie to everyone.

Oprah Winfrey - 5 Lessons You Taught Me

Ohayo!
Before I begin this post I want to share an amazing story & lesson I recently read on one of my favorite blogs>> The Positive Mom by Elayna Fernandez
I love reading her posts, it's always filled with such brilliant quality content.

– “Dad, look the trees are going behind us!”
Dad smiled.
A young couple sitting nearby, looked at the young man’s childish behavior with pity.
Suddenly, he again exclaimed:
– “Dad, look! The clouds are running with us!”
The couple couldn’t resist and said to the old man:
-“Why don’t you take your son to a good doctor?”
The old man smiled and said:
-“I did. We are just coming from the hospital. My son was blind from birth, he just got his eyes today!

“Every single person on the planet has a story. Don’t judge people before you truly know them. The truth might surprise you.”

Oprah Winfrey - 5 Lessons You Taught Me

5. “Turn your wounds into wisdom.”

Turn your mess into a message. Don’t let your pain be in vain. Do something positive with it!

4. "The thing you fear most has no power. Your fear of it is what has the power. Facing the truth really will set you free."

Letting go of fear is probably one of the most challenging things to do and it is a daily battle, not a once off sprint. But once you do, the feeling is unimaginable. You become unshackled to go out and achieve.

3. “Books were my pass to personal freedom. I learned to read at age three, and there discovered was a whole world to conquer that went beyond our farm in Mississippi.”

This is such a brilliant lesson and definitely one of my favorite quotes by her. Books are absolutely the greatest thing man has ever invented in my opinion. They have power like no other. To reach worlds and cultures you never thought possible.

2. “Surround yourself only with people that are going to take you higher.”

It was only until last year that this lesson ever entered my mind. I began to value the people in my life that were as motivated or more motivated than I. They are the ones that support your journey, selflessly and passionately. They lift others up.

1. “I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you. ”

Such a profound and meaningful lesson, how could I not share it?
A lesson, that if we truly let it, could change SO much for us.

Embrace your uniqueness. You are different, your gift is special – own it and unapologetically share it with the world.

Oprah and her talk show has taught me so much over the many years of viewing that it's beyond tough to pick just five lessons. Quite possibly soon, I might have to do a top ten on the shows that changed my perspective on life. She's had such incredible and larger than life guests on her show, guests who've the touched the heart of the world many times over.
These are the 5 lessons I've found most applicable in the sense of self-improvement & wisdom.

Here's some fun :-) I just had to include this. It's ICONIC, no?

Too often do we settle for less when More becomes exceedingly unavailable.

Believe in More.

#RIPMuhammadAli - 5 Lessons You taught Me

How could I ever forget you?
How could I ever not honor you?

Muhammad Ali has been a positive force in my life for as long as I can remember. He wasn't just a boxer, in fact, he transcended the sport. He was a singular entity of sheer willpower that I will never forget. In my darkest moments, he has been there. In my surest moments, he was there.

Here are the 5 Lessons that he taught me:

1. "If your dreams don't scare you, they aren't Big enough."
To begin, I really do believe that actions speak louder than words. Muhammad proved that not only were his words loud and true but that he could back them up with massive action. He had a dream, a big dream & nothing stopped him from achieving it, not even the fear of just how big a dream it was.
Dream Big - It's encouraged by Ali himself.

Never discourage someone from a dream no matter how crazy impossible it may be. For it is always the craziest ones that ever change the world.

Dreams emblazon our souls with the mightiest of passions. They tether our determination directly to our outward actions.

2. "I AM THE GREATEST. I said that even before I knew I was."
There is power in affirmation. Real power, not the kind that gives you dominion over others but the kind that gives you dominion over yourself.
How often do we doubt? How often do we see others succeeding & think "Oh I couldn't do that", "I will never be that good"

Some boxers may think they will never be as great or greater still than Ali. For some it's the paralyzing doubt that their skills will never match up. For others, it's the excuse that they would never dishonor him by trying to be greater. Balderdash. You dishonor him More than ever by Not trying your darndest to be the very best of the best. It was his very nature and he would encourage that in all.

J.K Rowling IMO is the Greatest Literary Legend of our time & to writers it may seem bloody fantastically impossible to ever compare or overcome that achievement. Again Balderdash, if you follow her message, her daily interactions. You will blatantly see that she encourages you to believe that YOU are worth it. If you put in the time, fail as many times as you need to but above all else believe in your work, nothing is impossible.

Wake up every morning and say this to yourself. Not in arrogance, oh no, but in fortifying your belief.

This Quote is EPIC: Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact, it's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a DARE. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary.
Impossible is Nothing!

3. "Float like a butterfly, Sting like a bee."
How could I not include this or "I done wrestled with an alligator, I done tussled with a whale, only last week I murdered a rock, injured a stone, hospitalised a brick. I'm so mean I make medicine sick."

Haha! Here's where he taught me, you've gotta have FUN with it. Be crazy, be awesome and be sure.
I mean, who says things like that? It's hilarious, unguarded and completely one of the greatest messages out there. People might hate on you for being out there in the spotlight, for being so daring but so what? It is not on you to ever dim your light so that others might be more comfortable. Make it so that they couldn't ignore you even if they wanted to.

As is your passion {Insert here}, throw in some FUN and see what happens.

4. "I hated every minute of training, but I said, 'Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion'."
Now that we've covered the essentials of Dreams, Belief & Fun. We get down to what galvanizes them all together and allows you to rise above all else. To conquer, to achieve.
Ridiculous work ethic.
Ridiculous.

Will Smith, who portrays Muhammad in the 2001 film titled Ali had this to say on the matter:

"I've never viewed myself as particularly talented. I've viewed myself as…slightly above average in talent. Where I excel is with a ridiculous, sickening work ethic. While the other guy's sleeping, I'm working. While the other guy's eating, I'm working. While the other guy's making love, I mean, I'm making love, too, but I'm working really hard at it!"

“I’m not afraid to die on a treadmill. I will not be outworked. Period. You might have more talent than me. You might be smarter than me. And you may be sexier than me. But if we get on a treadmill together there’s two things that’ll happen. You are going to get off first or I’m going to die. It’s really that simple. I’m not going to be outworked.”

Personal Experience: Put in that effort, your actions become habit and once they do ain't nothing gonna stop ya.

5. "Inside of a ring or out, ain't nothing wrong with going down. It's staying down that's wrong."
Failure is not the end! Too many of us fail and think oh, that's it, it's done. No more, No less.
Failure is not the opposite to success. It's a part of the journey. Richard Branson, Steve Jobs, Oprah, Ellen Degeneres, Will Smith and so many other icons. Including Ali & JK Rowling, FAILED. At times, they failed monumentally so. But what separated them from us is that they got back up, shook it off and kept on hustling.

Ain't none of the first 4 lessons matter without this one. In fact, it is probably the most important one of them all.

Failure is the Key to Success and I would rather Fail a million, no Billion times at something I love than to settle for something I don't. Because even then my friends, let me tell you, even then you could fail. At something you settled for, you could Fail. So I ask, why not fail at something you love. Fail and fail until you succeed.

Every Legend, every Icon had to go through it. You nor I will be any different. But if you use all the first 4 lessons and apply them to how you react to failure. Wooohhheeee, goosebumps, You will accomplish unbelievable, unstoppable things.

Dream Big
Believe in Yourself
Have Fun
Ridiculous Work Ethic
It's ok to Fail but get back up

Inspire Tag: What Motivates You?

Inspire. Create. Write.TM

1. What is the best advice you were ever given?
  • No one cares how much you know until they know how much you Care.

2. Who inspires you and why?
  • J.K Rowling. Her journey is one of those epic, unbelievably intense battles against adversity. Rock bottom became the foundation for which she rebuilt her life. Nothing inspires me more both as an author and a person.

3. Everyone has bad days, how do you deal with a bad day?
  • I feel it all! Let everything in, embrace the darkness & shout into the void. Yes, there is comfort within even the darkest parts of you. Once you cuddle up to that beast, nothing can keep you locked away ever again.

4. Where do you go/what do you do when you need motivation?
  • Hmm I'm a huge fan of personal development so when I need it, I have an arsenal of kick-ass, power-up videos & audios that I go through. That & I love chilling-out on my roof, watching the stars expand out in the night sky.

5. Failure is a big part of life, what has been your biggest failure to date?
  • Haha if only you knew, as crazy as I am, I've failed more often than most. Last November I lost everything and I mean everything. Literally nothing to my name and a debt total that would astound most conservative people. To top it all my cat, Loki passed away in the worst way. For all intents & purposes, I was in ruin.

6. What is your biggest achievement?
  • After years of agonizing torture and heartache, I finally admitted that I am a writer. Wrote my first novel at eighty-four thousand words (think a little over the first Harry Potter book length) in fourteen days. It is the first thing I have ever accomplished completely on my own. Had I not failed, I might not be where I am today.

7. Have you conquered any fears?
  • Hell Yeah! I'm a bulldozer when it comes to fears. Fear of public speaking, fear of body image, fear of confrontation, fear of sharing my writing. The only way through. ..Is through! Once you do it, it's not so scary no more and helping other people see this has been a blessing.

8. Music helps lift our mood, What is your go-to song when you need a pick me up?
  • Linkin Park-Given Up. It's just the rawness of the song, his voice, and the rhythm…takes me over the edge.

9. Complete the sentence, Happiness is…
  • When you learn that helping others achieve it is a most worthy, a pursuit.

10. What do you do to clear your mind?
  • Hahaha why would I ever want that? The mind is an intricate network of neurons and within their chaos is the beauty of creativity. I could never ask for a better gift.

11. Life can be stressful what are your top 3 things to unwind?
  • Books, with them I can escape anywhere I want. The past, present, future. Magical societies, other dimensions, whole new worlds of wonder and possibility.
  • TV series, whistle* if anything Did, in fact, mellow my brain waves, this would be it. I binge like a bear before hibernation.
  • Video games, bring on the RPG's!

12. Have you watched any inspiring movies? Do you have any favorites?
  • The Pursuit of Happyness
  • A Fault in our Stars
  • Interstellar

13. What is your favorite inspirational quote?

14. Do you listen to motivational speakers?
  • Yuppity yup! I've had the privilege of meeting some of the greatest personal development legends from all over this planet. It's been a life-changing experience, to say the least.

15. How do you cope with unpleasant people?
  • I apply this. "Some will, some won't. So what?...Next!"
  • I love meeting new people, the ones ready for change. Those are who stay with me. The others fall away without prejudice on my part. I just ain't got time for it.
16. What is your best piece of advice?
  • Dream Big, especially when all the world tells you not to.

17. Complete the sentence “When life gives you lemons…”
  • Build a lemon ladder to the heavens :-D

18. What is the most inspiring book you have ever read?
  • The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson.

19. Do you have a place to pray or meditate?
  • If by that you mean, the place by which I say my affirmations. Then Yeah, my bed, in the morning before my feet touch the ground.
