Fantastic Beasts & Eddie Redmayne: 5 Lessons You Taught Me

Alohomora!

"I open at the Close."
"I solemny swear that I am up to no good."

Half way through the week & it's #WednesdayWisdom
Iiiiiit's Finally that time, the #FantasticBeasts Movie is releasing in a week!
Today I'm sharing 5 Lessons from Both this EPic movie & Eddie Redmayne, the Oscar winning star playing the main character, Newt Scamander.

On Friday, you might have thought me as cracked as mad-eye moody because all I posted about was Harry Potter & Fantastic Beasts. You see there was different competitions running all to win the same price.
Well let me assure you it was well worth it
Guess who's going to the exclusive Premiere >>>This Guy <<< hahaha

Here's my winning entry
A similiar post to this and my love confession of all things JK Rowling:

J.K Rowling - 5 Lessons You Taught Me

I still have the original book released way back when, it's got all these hilarious scribbles made in them by "Ron Weasley"
It's not a novel but rather a guide to some of the Fantastical Beasts.

Fantastic Beasts is a wonderful & magically shinning example that being different is actually a great thing. It's beasts are not unlike so many animals misunderstood & some even persecuted all around the world. Hunted & killed for their uniqueness.

Let's take a stand TODAY against poaching & animal cruelty. They all deserve to be respected & admired for their awesomeness.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a 2016 British fantasy film directed by David Yates and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. A spin-off of the Harry Potter film series, the film was produced and written by J. K. Rowling (in her screenwriting debut), inspired by her book of the same name

Edward John David "Eddie" RedmayneOBE (/ˈrɛdˌmn/; born 6 January 1982) is an English actor, model and singer. Born and raised in the City of Westminster, Redmayne studied history of art at Trinity College, Cambridge, after which he briefly dabbled with a modelling career.

Redmayne is the recipient of several accolades, including an Academy Award and in 2015, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his services to drama. In addition to his acting career, he supports several social causes, including LGBT rights.

Eddie won the Oscar for Best Actor in the Movie, The Theory of Everything where he played the legend, Stephan Hawking! It was an unbelievable performance filled to the brimmed with the feels and sure to make anyone emotional.

His next role only further emphasizes Eddie's superb acting chops & bravery. The following year, he played Lili Elbe, one of the first known recipients of sex reassignment surgery, in Hooper's The Danish Girl, which gained him a second Oscar nomination for Best Actor.

On to it then,

5 Lessons You Taught Me

5.
Judgement is for Judges

“Imperfect understanding is often more dangerous than ignorance.”
~J.K. Rowling, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Nothing is ever as it seems. Judge not what you don't take the time to understand. Never resign yourself to what you Know, there's always a different perspective. The whole premise of the Fantastic Beasts worldbuilding is that these creatures are often misunderstood with Mr. Newt Scamander making it his life purpose to educate the magical community and help them understand these beasts alittle more.

For the fans: Recall the Thestrals, many people avoided them in fear because one could only see them when one had been a witness to death. Does that peculiarity warrant avoidance or rather should it be fascinating in its own right?

...Nothing is ever as it seems.
4.
#WeirdWednesday - Embrace Your Wacky Self

I did an interview once where I was asked who I found attractive and I went on about cartoons and Nala from 'The Lion King' - and it's a bit weird but various of my ex-girlfriends actually did look like Nala.
~Eddie Redmayne

Hahaha how wacky is that! I definitely recall having a lion crush on Nala when I first saw the Lion King as a kid. She was super awesome.
So if a weird guy like Eddie can win an oscar and become successful in his career, then even the weirdest weirdo has a shot, don't they? You have Nothing to worry about, let your inhibitions go and be who you were Always meant to be.
....Wonderfully Weird & Unique!

3.
Bring On the Fear

I'm just one gigantic ball of rancid fear and self-consciousness. I'm entirely fueled by fear, so the fact that I knew it could be a catastrophic disaster made me unable to sleep, and made me work quite hard.
~Eddie Redmayne

Brilliant perspective! Change up your thinking that your fear holds you back, allow it to push you forward and smash through any walls in your way.
I know, I know that I too have those days, moments even, where a bout of anxiety will sink in. An inner voice in your head telling you that you can't do that or do this or be that or want this.
Because Eddie had this perspective he delivered one of the most EPIC performances of the last decade & it won him the Oscar!!!
....Here is your proof, Here is your power!

2.
Step by Itibity-Steppity Step

“Take life step by step, pace by pace, slowly slowly, and leave the competition to others.”
~Eddie Redmayne

It can be sooo tempting to take the fast route, to sprint through a day at top speed not realizing that this is a Marathon. It happens to all of us even the well organized. Life is Life, it's messy nothing is ever cemented in stone. The world around us is all abuzz with truckfull of noise, hustle & bustle. It moves in zigs & zags like a Formula One racer. We're all just playing catch up as best we can.

The secret sauce from Eddie here is that our Need for things to happen right now need not "Exceed Expectations"
You have a goal right? A burning passion in life? Or even just a "I want to be well-off mate"
Well that doesn't just happen over night, it takes effort & a Will to survive.
All you need do is take it day by day, step by step, inch by inch, atom by atom
BUT the most important thing is to become Adaptable. Fluid like the current of a river but as tough as the Oceanic waves that mold the moutainsides to their favor.

...Adapt to the day, adapt the challenges your next step may bring you

1.
WE are the Magic

Up there on the screen, we can all fly. But down here on earth, we need to be each others wings.
~Eddie Redmayne

Such an amazing lesson from Eddie, wow. Has immense meaning within and has become one of my favorites. This ties into the above lesson of being in competition. The only competition you should have is with yourself. To be today, a better version of yourself than you were yesterday.

I only surround myself with people that are going to lift me higher, that are as giving maybe even more so, than I am. They focus on sharing the love and helping others succeed.

Whether you're in the acting biz, an author or a blogger or candlestick maker. You have a choice today to help someone, anyone in anyway you can. Share out your experience, share out your joy. Don't hold back.

...When we help each other, EVERYone wins.

Are you a fellow Potterhead? A fanboy or girl? Let me know! Let's Connect.
Excited for this movie?

Striking Gold: What’s next after Pokemon Go.

Konnichiwa
Happy #TravelTuesday :-)
Got a great feature for you today. Received an email this morning from Sean McNicholas, the CEO of Project M Studios. He reached out to me after reading my post: Alfonzo Words: #PokemonGO - 5 Lessons You Taught Me

So it's humbling & a great honor to present you with his guest post today.

What If I told you that you could play a mobile game to pass the time while waiting in line at the bank or riding the bus, and be rewarded Actual 24k Gold Bars delivered to your door for successful accomplishments made inside the virtual gaming environment.  Use your phone and fingers to mine for real actual gold.  Nothing has ever been done like this.  Until now.
💥💰💰💸 💸 🎮🎮🎮📱📱📱

The world recently saw the wild frenzy that can be the result when a mobile game adds a touch of reality.  Pokeman Go almost instantly became the biggest mobile game in history, generating $1.6 million in revenue a day with well over 100 million users.

Pokemon Go set higher expectations for mobile gamers who are now demanding more from the games they play than simple entertainment.  They want to feel engaged, they want to feel like the time they spend playing games is not wasted time.  A mobile game studio based out of London has created what they believe will be the future model of mobile gaming.  Something completely groundbreaking that has never been done before.  They want to reward players with actual 24k gold bars.  And they are already doing it!

The game is called Dig That Gold and it is celebrating its Australian release on IOS this week.

Dig That Gold launched in the UK in September and has already given out over 25,000 AUD worth of real 24k gold bars to players.  97% of these players acquired their gold without spending a single cent on in-app purchases that can help players reach goals faster.

“Mobile devices have opened the world of gaming to a critical mass of casual gamers across all parts of society. Despite this, game studios that make millions every day have failed to provide a tangible incentive for players who have stayed committed and loyal to these games. That’s what makes Project M, and our first offering – Dig That Gold – revolutionary in nature, with the awards of real 24k gold bars leading the charge in terms of remunerating consumers for their dedication to the game.” - Sean McNicholas, CEO Project M

Sean McNicholas, the game's creator, came from a corporate finance background but was fascinated by the staggering growth of the mobile game market.

“I always thought it would be a great idea to reward mobile game players with some sort of tangible thing, something of value they could hold in their hands that would bridge the gap between the virtual world and the real world.  I was shocked that no other game was doing this.”

Video games have been designed around the same principles for decades.  Entertain the user by immersing them in a virtual fantasy world.  Pokemon Go was revolutionary because it intertwined the virtual fantasy world with the world we live in.  Dig That Gold goes beyond mere entertainment.  It aims to give players the chance to strike gold, quite literally.  There is a thrill factor in that which cannot be compared to capturing an invisible Pikachu.

“I believe this is going to be the beginning of a big shift in the mobile game industry.  Something new needed to come along.  Pokemon Go made people realize they could get something more out of a gaming experience.  Dig That Gold is taking it to a new level.” -Sean McNicholas, CEO Project M Studios

The Australian Mobile Game Market in a Snapshot:
  • Revenue in the "Mobile Games" segment amounts to US$99m in 2016.
  • Revenue is expected to show an annual growth rate (CAGR 2016-2021) of 7.4 % resulting in a market volume of US$142m in 2021.
  • User penetration is at 28.7 % in 2016 and is expected to hit 36.5 % in 2021.
  • The average revenue per user (ARPU) currently amounts to US$18.00.
  • Mobile Game users are split almost evenly with regards to gender usage.

Dig That Gold, a quick look
  • Launched by London-based mobile game studio Project M, Dig That Gold is the first mobile game of its kind to award players real 24k gold bars for their in-game achievements
  • In the beta phase of Dig That Gold, over 300 players have already received a bar of real 24k gold
  • To celebrate the launch, the London-based game studio Project M will hosted a live treasure hunt across London giving people the chance to win thousands of pounds of real gold bars by solving clues across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.  Olympic medalist Louis Smith (Brand ambassador to Dig That Gold) was one of those giving away gold bars.

About the Game
Dig That Gold is currently free to download for iOS devices. Set during the legendary Gold Rush era, Dig That Gold plays host to an infinite and exciting ecosystem of virtual gold mines. The game sees players navigate through different mines, destroying blocks in search of gold nuggets while managing their air and energy levels which deplete over time. Once a player exits a mine, they are then able to pan for virtual gold nuggets which will eventually convert into real gold.
As players explore this online mining environment, every virtual gold nugget that is successfully mined is stored in their in-game account. Once a certain number of gold nuggets have been mined, players are able to exchange their virtual gold for real 24k gold bars, which are dispatched in the post by Baird & Co – the oldest gold refiners in the UK to supply the Royal Mint.
Players are able to make in-app purchases to accelerate their game progression – so far, 97% of the 300-plus people who have acquired gold bars during the game’s beta phase did so without spending money.

About Mobile Game Developer Project M
This revolutionary concept is the first offering from Project M – a London-based game studio. In light of the success of Pokémon Go, combining the virtual and real worlds into one integrated experience, Project M awards players for the time and commitment they dedicate by awarding tangible assets for in-game achievements. Dig That Gold is the first in a suite of Project M games that seek to break the fourth wall of gaming, combining experiential value with in-app experiences.

CEO of Project M, Sean McNicholas, commented on how Dig That Gold’s revolutionary premise finally gives gamers the recognition they deserve:

“I believe Project M’s Dig That Gold will compel people to rethink what they would like to get out of their mobile gaming experience. We believe this new concept will revolutionise the gaming industry forever!”

Click Here to check out a recent Forbes article that talks a bit about the current landscape of the mobile gaming market and how Sean and his team are shaking things up.
Project M recently won BEST START-UP at the 2016 #TIGAawards & Dig That Gold was a finalist for Game of The Year.
As brand ambassador for Dig That Gold, Olympic medalist Louis Smith explained why he was eager to become involved in this new mobile game sensation.
“Beyond my main line of work as a gymnast, I’m a keen gamer – it keeps my mind occupied in the downtime between training sessions and events, and is something I’ve been into for years now. That’s why, for me, it’s great that I'm able to be involved in Dig That Gold.

“The thing that really caught my attention was the simple premise of getting something back from a game, as opposed to an endless investment of time, and sometimes money, with no return. Being awarded real gold bars for your in-game success is a fresh concept that I’m a real fan of, so it’s great to see so many people taking part in The Great Gold Hunt today, with Londoners and gamers alike jumping at the chance to get their hands on some real gold.” -Louis Smith

Happy Gaming :-)

Inspire. Create. Write.TM

Bonjour vous les gens épiques

It's a new week with a whole new set of probabilities & awesome paths your life can take.
Let's kickit off with #MondayMotivation

The #AntiBullying campaigns are under way & body image is ranked up high on the bullying list, especially from personal experience. In search, a model's inspiring profile caught my eye. He seemed perfect for an Inspire Tag feature & I really enjoyed his answers today.

Michael's posts are both motivational & wise, shedding adequate light on important matters while providing a great lifestyle bonus of nutritional value.

The white sage burner and lover of the sun.

Inspire Tag

1. What is the best advice you were ever given?
  • My grandmother used to say nasty people are jealous people, growing up I didn’t quite believe her but now I’m not so sure.
2. Who inspires you and why?
  •  It has to be my mother. She’s gone through a lot and despite all this she’s managed to survive, raise two children, get a 2.1 in a long distance course in psychology whilst working a demanding full time job and now is in the process of writing a novel. She inspires me.
3. Everyone has bad days, how do you deal with a bad day?
  • Take a shower, go for a walk, find good things to focus on. I think on bad days it’s good to go back to the basics.
4. Where do you go/what do you do when you need motivation?
  •  I live close to a protected park with a huge forest so I usually take a walk around there. Or I make of huge teapot of herbal tea.

Hibiscus
5. Failure is a big part of life, what has been your biggest failure to date?
  •  I don’t like that word failure. I haven’t failed at anything because I’ve learnt from any potential failings.
6. What is your biggest achievement?

Hmmmm I have a few that I’m proud of.
  • I have a 2.1 in Law – it was really difficult and my first year was especially tough.

In my first year of modelling I’ve managed to secure a campaign for an eyewear company called Cutler and Gross and book 8 runway shows.

7. Have you conquered any fears?
  •  Yes I think so, I struggle with rejection and every casting in modelling you face a high probability of rejection.

Tips & Tricks:

1. Do you have any great Model resources/ Sites that you can share with us?

2. What would you say to other aspiring Models out there?

  • Persistence is key, look after yourself (physically, emotionally and mentally) and take it seriously. There is nothing worse than seeing models do it just to say they are a model to impress other people.

3. If there was just one nugget of wisdom you could share, what would that be?

  • Try not to compare yourself with others and their careers – everyone is different, there are no set rules in modelling. This sounds really basic but it’s easily forgotten.

See the reason that I do these Tags especially the Inspire Tag, is to show you that "Anything is possible if you've got enough Nerve." JK Rowling. Ms. Rowling, Steve Jobs, Ricard Branson, Oprah, Ellen Degeneres, Nelson Mandela, Gandhi, Steven Spielberg, Trevor Noah and the list goes on and on. What do they all have in common?

They are YOU!

Yes, they started out just like you, regular, human, with regular families, regular friends, regular skills. But they Dreamed, oh boy did they ever Dream. More importantly, they put in the hard work, the maximum effort & that is truly how they ended up where they are today. You don't need 7 secrets, 20 techniques or an all weekend program to be successful. You need only realize that EVERYONE who ever accomplished anything started exactly where you will start. Once you do, all that anxiety & doubt will disappear, in its place, a beautiful and powerful Magic will start to grow.

The Magic of YOU!

So I beseech you, start to Dream again, start to Believe in You because I already do. I have faith that all of you can & will accomplish incredible and insurmountable feats. Your dream is still there, I promise you it's still there. Reach out and Soar with it.

The Directors Seat: How to Write a Movie or TV Series Review

Inspire. Create. Write.TM

Ohayo!

Awesome News!

Check me out on Twitter: @AlfonzoWords :-)

Today I'm going #ThrowbackThursday & sharing a guest post feature I was honored with on The Blog Tag.

When life gives you sweet vanilla ice cream it's important to take stock & contemplate the journey getting here.

 on

Once upon a time not so long ago, we did an interview with one of the most amazing writers/bloggers. And as a regular reader of Alfonzo Words I knew I just had to ask this rising star for a guest post on movies/series as he is constantly talking/quoting/reviewing some new movie or series that came out.
Without any further delays, I present to you:

The Directors Seat

What do I want to be when I grow up?

A question I would ask myself constantly as I grew up. The only answers I ever found were in movies & TV series. To give you an indication:
When I watched the movie Big with Tom Hanks, I wanted to be that. For my job to be all about toys.
When I watched the TV series Greys Anatomy, all I wanted was to be a surgeon. It sparked an insane passion for Biology in High School. In fact, it was probably the only subject I studied for. Intensely. So adamant was I, that I applied to study medicine in university.
Then the real world hit, after the joy of getting accepted and an amazing graduation vacation with all of my friends, I returned to discover that my college fund had been…misplaced. There I was, Matric certificate & no idea what to do with my life. This brought on a spiral of depression that landed me in hospital. Thankfully I got a job at Primedia the month after. It didn’t pay much but I was more determined than ever to do something, anything with my life. It only took one Google search and I was hooked. Movies! I had loved them all my life, more than most. What better career could I have found than to be a Director! Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, James Cameron! I was overjoyed and for that year I saved up so I could afford college. The admission process into the Arts Department at Wits was fierce to say the least yet I managed somehow to beat out the thousands and get a spot. If you’re still in college or have ever been, you’ll understand when I say that campus life is the good life. Haha. Great friends both old and new, leisurely strolls and EPIC parties of note. Everyday I seemed to have made a new friend.
The key subjects I enrolled in was Film, Television, Fine Art, Drama & Music. The knowledge and experience I acquired there will never be forgotten.
Fast forward, I began in the industry just as I had started, with no clue how I was going to do anything haha. Got a job with an amazing company Blue Wizard Productions & additionally got hired to be a part-time cameraman for a movie. With the company I literally had to start off at the bottom. Checking all the equipment, making sure the gazillion batteries were charged, lighting, sound, graphics, promo clips. The learning curve was steep & the support minimal. Everything was expected, so when a mess up occurred boy did I get it. There were days when I would clutch my head and wonder what the hell I had gotten into.
On the plus side, the camera-man gig was going so damn well I could tear. We got to travel to the most unbelievable places within South Africa, seriously I had no idea such Opulence existed in this country. There was even a place reminiscent so closely to France that I thought I was walking those cobbled streets. Got to drive a Cobra up Cape Point, the acceleration alone ripped through me at the slightest touch to the pedal. Cuddle up under the stairs at a lodge that had beds outside on the patio. Even ended up swimming with pythons (Yeah you heard me, Pythons and of course I didn’t know they were there when I jumped in!)
These getaways were where I truly discovered the travel bug & also gave me a new found power over my work. I would return with vigor & concur the challenges I faced on a Daily basis at Blue Wizard. From the obnoxious son of the boss in all his Douche*ness to the crazy deadlines to finish a project. I took it all in stride. It’s absolutely mind-boggling how much goes into what you see on the screen. To give you an indication, I once had to edit a quick 11 minute video on Safety at a Nestle factory.
Cool parts: I got handed the entire project, which meant I would be directly involved in the camerawork, lighting, sound & editing. Not just lugging around the equipment. Got to work with the graphic designer to get the sequences & aesthetics just right.
Crazy parts: For an 11 minute video it took an entire day of shooting from sun up till sun down and then editing through those hours & hours of footage to find the right clips needed. Since there was two cameras it was double the hours. And yes the footage was necessary because of the angles, sound bites & moments captured.
From this, I was able to hone my skills and even get the chance to edit prime time TV shows, which was a true highlight in my career.
The thing that stuck with me though was that I could never watch a movie or TV series the same again haha. Thinking about the angles, camera work, lighting, sound & editing involved as I watched. What was once a mindless, enjoyable thing became a critical analysis of the techniques used and a learning process for me, yet still all the more enjoyable.
On the movie side I had finally been given the supreme honor of not only writing but also directing one of the scenes. The premise was at a 5 star golf resort where the couple would be spending their valentine’s day. Let me tell you, you can plan and plan for a scene to go one way but in the moment, aye caramba! it’s a whole other dealio. I had to think on my feet & improvise in a lot of places but true and true it was a brilliant weekend. I got teased by the actors for the romantic scenes I had written. We had tons of fun & I learned how to swing a club yet be gentle with the putter.
All in all it, everything I learned, everything I did was an unbelievable experience that I wouldn’t trade for the world. It’s made me into the man I am today. My writing might be my primary focus right now, but I still have mad passion for the film & television industry. Someday I will get back into it. Big, Big Plans are afoot haha.
So with all of that being said, I have an almost obsessive affair with Movies & TV Series having atleast 7 Terabytes worth of the stuff. That’s 7000 Gigabytes mind you. I can spend endless hours watching every known Genre of Movie &/or TV series.

Here’s a quick guide on how to write a movie/TV series review:

Be Personal! No one wants to read a generic, monosyllabic regurgitate of what’s already on the interwebs. You have a unique voice, use it. I want to know about your experience, what made the piece truly memorable for you, what emotions did it invoke whether positive or negative, speak out & speak up. Trust me, your opinion matters. The more you are your true self in a review, the more readers will flock to see what you have to say on it.
  1. Include a short blurb of the storyline as you understand it
  2. Include your personal experience with the Movie/TV Series
  3. Tell us about your favorite characters
  4. Conclude on your overall reflections
  5. Make us anticipate a watch or deter us, whichever is your purview
  6. Give it a personal rating out of 10

Here are some quick one liners from me on memorable movies:

Interstellar: “Transcended my perspective on the known universe. Had my friend and I, for the first time, literally on the edge of our seats.”

Deadpool: “A Chaos Storm of awesomeness! Epically changed the whole superhero game especially for Deadpool comic book fans, myself included.”

Star Wars – “The Force Awakens: Brought back all those feelings and memories of why I absolutely love the franchise. With a gut-wrenching twist thrown in the middle.”

Love, Rosie: Ah, the age old story of two best friends falling in & out of love. Made more relevant by my own story with a best friend. Somehow we always come back to each other.

The Fault In Our Stars: "Pain demands to be felt." Such EPIC feels in this movie, fresh & witty dialogue. A storyline that is just wordless in it’s beauty. Okay… Okay….
I really hope that helps should you ever want to do a Movie or TV series review.
If you would like examples check out these posts on reviews I’ve done so far:

Let's just say it's been a long long journey getting here & I know I still have a ways to go. I'm grateful for all the amazing souls I've met along the way & will continue to appreciate them in any way I can for as long as I breathe.

Know that every closed door leads to other interesting paths you never thought possible and so long as you remain true to your Dreams of Bigdom, no matter where you go, you'll always end up where you truly belong...Just Believe & never stop moving forward.

There is No equal to the creativity in Imagination~
