STAN LEE: 5 Lessons You Taught Me

Buenos Dias

An Icon, a Living Legend has passed recently. This post is to honor & celebrate the wisdom he left behind for All of us to embrace. For some of us we were all introduced to Stan via his many, many cameo appearances throughout the Marvel cinematic movies released. It was this kind of creativity & his ability to have fun with his work that kept him in our hearts & minds. Think about it, how many icons & "talent behind the scenes" gets lost in the forefront of the world? So many could be responsible for some of the coolest things ever released & we've all but forgotten them. Stan Lee became a household name & expectance in of itself. I still distinctly remember his voice over on the first spiderman game on the Playstation on. How he would blurt out "Excelsior" or "Webslinger"
Here watch it:

Now I think back to it fondly about how much he influenced my geek life growing up. Even back then.

Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber; December 28, 1922 – November 12, 2018) was an American comic book writer, editor, and publisher who was active from the 1940s to the 2010s. He rose through the ranks of a family-run business to become Marvel Comics' primary creative leader for two decades, leading its expansion from a small division of a publishing house to a multimedia corporation that dominated the comics industry.

In collaboration with others at Marvel—particularly co-writer/artists Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko—he co-created numerous popular fictional characters, including superheroes Spider-Man, the X-MenIron ManThor, the Hulk, the Fantastic FourBlack PantherDaredevilDoctor Strange, and Ant-Man. In doing so, he pioneered a more naturalistic approach to writing superhero comics in the 1960s. He frequently made cameo appearances in movies based on Marvel characters, on which he received an honorary "executive producer" credit. Lee was inducted into the comic book industry's Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1995. He received the NEA's National Medal of Arts in 2008.

Stan Lee
5 Lessons You Taught Me

5. Excelsior!
"You know, my motto is 'Excelsior.' That's an old word that means 'upward and onward to greater glory.'

Every day, there’s a new development. … There’s no limit to the things that are happening. – Stan Lee

He's right the world is always changing, evolving. We should live in a constant state of mindful improvement. To keep moving forward, evolve, change & Level up. I mean this dude literally worked until the day he died! He was pursuing creative ventures well into his 90's. He was constantly creating, because it wasn't "work" to him. It was just pure passion, fun & joy.
Each one of us should create our own motto to live by.
Mine is "Words are Immortal. "
What's yours?

4. Writers Life
The only advice anybody can give is, if you wanna be a writer, keep writing. And read all you can, read everything. – Stan Lee

I’m sort of a pressure writer. If somebody says, “Stan, write something,” and I have to have it by tomorrow morning, I’ll just sit down and I’ll write it. It always seems to come to me. But I’m better doing a rushed job because if it isn’t something that’s due quickly, I won’t work on it until it becomes almost an emergency and then I’ll do it. – Stan Lee

Virtually every kid is exposed to giants and ogres and talking wolves, and so forth. And magic. And I think you never outgrow your love for those imaginative, fanciful, farfetched, fantastic characters and situations. – Stan Lee
I relate so much to this dude wow. I'm a pressure writer too! Case & point this post lol. I wrote it literally at the last possible minute to the deadline I set for myself. *Facepalm. It might not be entirely healthy or productive & yes I do agree that certain things need to be planned but really & truly I have more fun writing something in the moment, than ahead of time.
Reading is so important, you have no idea the effect it has on your writing until after you read +100 books. It's like your brain subconsciously does research on
How to write:
  • When to add punctuation.
  • When to end a conversation.
  • How to start one.

How to plot through a chapter
It also gives you ideas:
  • Tropes of characters
  • Plot twists
  • Story concepts
The list of benefits goes on and on. Trust Stan the Man, Go & Read yourself up a storm.

3. Great Power = Great Responsibility

"With great power comes great responsibility." - Stan Lee
"[Being a ‘geek’] has become a badge of honor. It’s geeks who really make or break a TV show or movie or video game. They’re the ones who are passionate about these things and who collect [the paraphernalia] and talk about them. A geek is really somebody interested in communication and entertainment and [finding] the best way to avail himself or herself to it..” – Stan Lee, The Washington Post.
Probably the Most famous quote of his. This one stands out on any list of Greatest quotes of all time.
While you might think it only applies to the "powerful" I believe it applies to us all. That we all have power within ourselves. That is unique & entirely our own. It is our "responsibility" to nurture it, to cultivate it into something that governs change within our lives. Think about it, if you had power, how can you be responsible for it? In what ways? Now apply that going forward.

2. Stay Humble. Stay Human.
These stories of people with unusual powers and unusual appearances, who do unusual things, people are always fascinated by them. – Stan Lee

Just because you have superpowers, that doesn’t mean your love life would be perfect. I don’t think superpowers automatically means there won’t be any personality problems, family problems or even money problems. I just tried to write characters who are human beings who also have superpowers. – Stan Lee

Here he's talking from experience. A great subject to be studied in Pop culture at university. Take heed to what he's staying, it might just give you the insight to your own story that it's been missing.
I think this equates to many things. About the core perspective. It doesn't matter the "classification of people". Whether it be Black, or LGBT+ or Aliens or Immigrants or Mutants or Women or Jewish. All those people that have been classified as separate or discriminated against in any shape or form. What matters is that they of have a quality of some humanity in each of them. That they are ALL Equal. That WE are all Equal. They all have to the capacity to Love & to Hate. They each have their own personal problems, family problems or even money problems. So really instead of discriminating & judging each other, we should be relating more than anything to people. I believe that that's what this world of Social Media revolution has helped with. For us to see JUST how much the person you never thought you would relate to, actually relates more to you than anyone you've known all your life. THAT POWER can help change the world.

1. Inspire. Create. Write.
I used to be embarrassed because I was just a comic-book writer while other people were building bridges or going on to medical careers. And then I began to realize: entertainment is one of the most important things in people’s lives. Without it they might go off the deep end. I feel that if you’re able to entertain people, you’re doing a good thing. – Stan Lee
I think because of many factors like family/societal expectancy, one's own expectancy, parental authority, monetary gain and so on that many of us in the "Creative" fields, find ourselves doubtful of our paths. Especially when we're exposed to all the news of doctors saving children down all over Africa or how the bridge being built by architects will cut traffic down by 50%. We're constantly exposed to all these stimuli of the amazing things people are accomplishing and you wonder how your artwork or piece of writing or the movie you're auditioning for or the song you're composing is going to make a dent in this ever-evolving world?? I mean how? Don't even get me started on when family member tells you about the accomplishments of cousin Tim & cousin Tina.... {eye roll} you can even see the glint in their eyes when they talking about it. You can't help but wish they would talk about you that way.

Well, Stan tells you. Look at the MASSIVE & UNDENIABLE effect his work has had on the world. Imagine how many of those doctors or lawyers that read comic books growing up. How many of them entertained to keep going in life. To live if even for that next issue that comes out the following week. Never doubt the power of entertainment.
I will forever believe that books are mankind's greatest invention of all time.
"Words are immortal."

WILL SMITH: 5 Lessons You Taught Me

Buenos Dias

If you've been watching my instastories you'll know that #WillSmith has the BEST insta acc rn!!!😍😍😍
it's so LIT!🀀πŸ”₯ @willsmith
Not only does he post some of the most inspirational & motivational videos you'll ever see in your lifetime but he also has a vlog going on of his daily adventures. Showcasing just what a truly DTE human being he is as well as the normality of his most extraordinary lifestyle.
I've both wondered & admired that he'd hadn't a social media presence over the years. So I'm unequivocally entertained by his BIG BANG step out to insta & YouTube which has seen such a successful massive following already.

Willard Carroll Smith Jr. (born September 25, 1968) is an American actor, producer, rapper, comedian, and songwriter. In April 2007, Newsweek called him "the most powerful actor in Hollywood". Smith has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards and two Academy Awards, and has won four Grammy Awards.

Smith has been ranked as the Most Bankable Star Worldwide by Forbes.[6] As of 2014, 17 of the 21 films in which he has had leading roles have accumulated worldwide gross earnings of over $100 million each, five taking in over $500 million each in global box office receipts. As of 2016, his films have grossed $7.5 billion at the global box office.

He is the ONLY ACTOR to have eight consecutive films gross over $100 million in the domestic box office, eleven consecutive films gross over $150 million internationally, and eight consecutive films in which he starred, open at the number one spot in the domestic box office tally.

Will Smith :
5 Lessons You Taught Me

5. The Pursuit of HappyNess
{HappYness with a Y}πŸ™ƒ

Probably, if not, his Most famous quote of all time. Said by his character to his son, Jaden in a moment of true fatherly bonding. This movie was such a powerful portrayal of the sheer tenacity of the human spirit. The truest meaning of "going the distance"

I can't even fathom the DEPTHS of character this dude reached to not only pursue his dream but also deal with having a family & a little person depending entirely on you. But then STILL taking the time to ensure that your kid knows that He Should DREAM BIG & never give up no matter what!\
Seriously how he didn't win an oscar for this I'll never know. Infact he deserves TEN of them just for this performance all.
Coz as fun and awesome as his other action packed roles are. This was Singularly & uncontestably his most significantly gut wrenching performance of pure acting godhood.

4. Early Often
ForWard
{Fail x 3😊}

Failure is a massive part of success. They go hand in hand. People often quit early & often & Backwards as soon as they fail. but it's the best part of a journey because you get to learn & do better. To be in competition with yourself to be better than the you that you were yesterday.
Watch this amazing video by Martin Sosa of Peak Your Mind
It perfectly encapsulates the power of Will Smith & furthermore showcases all his latest updates

3. Selfie Selflessly Self-Love
{Try sayin' that 5 times fast}

Surround yourself with only those that are going to lift you higher. Those that are going to fan the flames of your being & passion. That are going to support you even when you burn.
I admit I unintentionally remained with the people that are constantly negative, skeptical or otherwise close-minded to anything other than what is social been acceptable to them growing up. But removing myself from those toxic relationships has been a godsend. Because it is only then that you have the proper room in your life for the right kinds of relationship. Birthed from pure & mutual encouragement to your souls.

I've since found someone who completely believes in me, is constantly encouraging the talents that I'm most passionate about & is entirely patient when I veer slightly ofcourse lol.
I can't tell you how this feels. To have someone treat you the way you would a massive celebrity that you admire. To have someone always be more interested in what's doing in your life {I admit this makes you sometimes complacent in checking up on them}. Just to have someone, whether a friend, whether a soul mate or whether a family member. Makes all the difference.

2. Ridiculous Work Ethic
{Don't reach for the stars if ya ain't willin' to build the rocket ship}

Probably my personal favorite quote of his specifically because of the way in which he says it. The tone, the determination & the way he emphasisizes the word DIE. It is LEGEND!

It's not any stretch to say Will is one of, if not, the most hard working individual you'll ever know or hear of. Most because his actions have spoken miles and miles for what his words have stated here.

Hard work beats Talent. But it's not JUST the work. It's the maddening, deafening, quakening desire to NEVER stop! to be consistently at it until either it breaks or you do. But even at the breaking point do we get the chance to rebuild ourselves into a whole different kinda beast...

1. Stay Smilin'
{Feel the motion of the Ocean. Action creates reaction}

The world is but a mirror and sometimes all it does is simply reflect back to you the energy you generate.
Horrible customer service? Smile through it
Terrible relationship departure? Smile through it
Contemptible work conditions? Smile through it.
Failure upon Failure upon Failure upon Failure upon Failure? SMile ThRough it!
Seriously I've found that if you just hold on to that smile just alittle longer, it could make all the difference.

Once we were receiving horrible customer service & even though my family was getting frustrating, by just holding on to that smile & treating the aforamentioned person with joy & warmth, changed everything around. She "thawed" out as it were & returned the smiles. Know what this won us? VIP experiences for me and the fam. And by VIP, I mean she personally saw to it that all her buddies hooked us up with all the fun stuff.

Another was when I was at a concert in the "Golden Circle" section. The weather had been choppy that day But luckily one of us thought to bring raincoats. It started to rain & somehow my raincoat ended up being held up by a bunch of people to hide from the rain. Now I love love the rain & can run around for hours in it but the point was I could've been Miff'd that these randoms tore up my raincoat because they didn't have the sense to bring their own & instead stole mine without even bothering to ask me lol but I didn't. I stayed calm, humble & enjoy the rain. Now anyone who's been to Golden Circle will Know just how unbearably squashed you can get there once the main action starts. But because of my "patience" & smiles, this didn't seem to be a factor here. Everyone who'd benefited from my raincoat formed a sort of protective barrier around me! I could stand in piece with ample arm length room around me while everyone else was getting pushed and shoved every which way.

"Anything is possible if you've got enough Nerve." ~JK Rowling.

Ms. Rowling, Steve Jobs, Ricard Branson, Oprah, Ellen Degeneres, Nelson Mandela, Gandhi, Steven Spielberg, Trevor Noah and the list goes on and on. What do they all have in common?

They are YOU!

Yes, they started out just like you, regular, human, with regular families, regular friends, regular skills. But they Dreamed, oh boy did they ever Dream. More importantly, they put in the hard work, the maximum effort & that is truly how they ended up where they are today. You don't need 7 secrets, 20 techniques or an all weekend program to be successful. You need only realize that EVERYONE who ever accomplished anything started exactly where you will start. Once you do, all that anxiety & doubt will disappear, in its place, a beautiful and powerful Magic will start to grow.

The Magic of YOU!

So I beseech you, start to Dream again, start to Believe in You because I already do. I have faith that all of you can & will accomplish incredible and insurmountable feats. Your dream is still there, I promise you it's still there. Reach out and Soar with it.

"Let the world tremble as it senses all that you are about to accomplish"

5 Lessons Reese Witherspoon Taught Me

5. Reading is Sexy
{#Bookconcierge NPR 2016 Best Books List}
Get shoppingπŸ™ƒ

"I get crazy in a bookstore. It makes my heart beat hard because I want to buy everything."~ Reese Witherspoon

She's been featured on multiple accounts as one of the sexiest women on the planet.
So iptofacto if she is so in Love with reading then prestofineto Reading is Sexy!

Books are mankind's greatest invention in all of history. Nothing can heal, soothe, fix, mend, repair, reap, elate, encourage, tickle, beat, become, teach, impress, transport, catch & awaken you the way a book can. It is our supreme honor and responsibility that we ensure Books & reading continue through future generations.

She is an avid reader and has a film production company dedicated to bringing best selling books to screen: Pacific Standard Film: READ Article Here
She recently produced the critically acclaimed Gone Girl and I'm sure we all remember how gripping that movie was. Brrrrrr{goosebumps}~ the chills.

4. Women Crush
Wednesday
{I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours😊}

"Many people worry so much about managing their careers, but rarely spend half that much energy managing their lives. I want to make my life, not just my job, the best it can be. The rest will work itself out."~ Reese Witherspoon

“For women in this business, ascendancy is always a battle. It’s scrape and claw. I just try to stick to my guns and respect myself. I want to take the ingenues aside and say, ‘value yourself’! It’s okay if you have opinions!”~ Reese Witherspoon

Life is what happens when you forget to LIVE. Don't use your ambition, your career, your goals as an excuse for not experiencing all that life has to offer you. There is true beauty, true passion & true magic out there. You need only take the time to discover it.

3. Selfie Selflessly Self-Love
{Try sayin' that 5 times fast}

"There's no bad consequence to loving fully, with all your heart. You always gain by giving love."~ Reese Witherspoon

How often are we told, "don't wear your heart on your sleeve."
How often are we cautioned against falling in love, too hard and too fast.
Many people say money is what makes the world go round, but I believe it is Love. Love is in everything worth having. Your dream partner, your dream house, your dream career, even your dream weight...can only be achieved through genuine Love in all it's forms and shapes.

Almost Every blockbuster movie or bestselling book has a Love story.
Better to have Love & Lost than to have never loved at all. No other emotion, no other experience can trump what you feel when you feel Real, honest to goody-goodness Love.
LOVE is ALL.

2. Ridiculous Work Ethic
{Don't reach for the stars if ya ain't willin' to build the rocket ship}

“I like work. If it’s not hard enough, I try to make it harder. I like the process of being daunted by it, tackling it and knowing I can do it.”~ Reese Witherspoon

Now that we've covered the essentials of Readin', Livin' & Lovin'.
We get down to what galvanizes them all together and allows you to rise above all else. To conquer, to achieve.
Ridiculous work ethic.
Ridiculous.

Will Smith, who portrays Muhammad in the 2001 film titled Ali had this to say on the matter:

"I've never viewed myself as particularly talented. I've viewed myself as…slightly above average in talent. Where I excel is with a ridiculous, sickening work ethic. While the other guy's sleeping, I'm working. While the other guy's eating, I'm working. While the other guy's making love, I mean, I'm making love, too, but I'm working really hard at it!"

“I’m Not afraid to die on a treadmill. I will not be outworked. Period. You might have more talent than me. You might be smarter than me. And you may be sexier than me. But if we get on a treadmill together there’s two things that’ll happen. You are going to get off first or I’m going to die. It’s really that simple. I’m not going to be outworked.”

Personal Experience: Put in that effort, your actions become habit and once they do ain't nothing gonna stop ya.

1. Stay WILD
{Feel the motion of the Ocean. Action creates reaction}

“Doing begets more doing. It sounds simple, but I’m a firm believer that action can solve so many worries, and just powering through, no matter what, can give you the confidence you need when you feel like you’ve got nothing to offer.”~ Reese Witherspoon

We live in a world where it is just One complaint after another. There's no end to the stream of people who are constantly complaining about their lives, the world around them and the other people in it. All they want is for you to listen to them, interact with them and become just another negative nelly.
Who would you rather listen to?
The person who wants everything but does nothing to achieve it OR The person who has everything and was wiling to do anything to achieve it???

The only way through is... Through!
As Han says in Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift. There's no hard or fast way of learning how to Drift. You learn by doing it.
And in the infamous words of Nike
JUST DO IT!

*************
My All-Star mentor and friend Akasha Garnier was the one who intro'd me to Reese's inspirational & influential side. And when your mentor is inspired by someone you make sure you pay attention to who that could be.
Akasha's book Secrets to Shine Through the Noise references Reese's influence and quotes. It's a MUST READ self-improvement book. Glowing reviews can be found throughout this blog.

Reese recently ran a twitter campaign with the Hashtag  in honor of her movie WILD. Akasha joined in the fun and here was Reese's response:
Author/screenwriter Akasha Garnier mentions:
"Reese Witherspoon has a stellar sense of shine on several levels: I appreciate that she shows her strength, beauty and Southern charm as she inspires women and girls of all ages. She is book smart and willing to act on it!"

Her newest venture "Hello Sunshine" will launch in 2017 with ATT Direct TV.

"As we continue the journey of creating engaging entertainment for and about women at Hello Sunshine, it's exciting to have a partner in AT&T who shares that commitment with us. We can't wait to bring the Hello Sunshine channel to life with DIRECTV and DIRECTV NOW customers in 2017," said Witherspoon.

Trevor Noah: 5 Lessons You Taught Me

Aloha!

Half way through the week & it's #WednesdayWisdom

Today I had a thought, why not share someone local? And few are more deserving than this guy right here. From humble beginnings, Trevor Noah has taken the world by storm with his witty banter & fantabulous comedic personality.
on Netflix

His hopelessly insane ambition and passion has made him one of the most talked about comedians around the world. Even more so when he was offered to host the The Daily Show in America! Trevor offers us the core value instilled by Mandela that "It always seems Impossible until it's done."

He's a shining beacon for all South Africans to DREAM BIG & Never surrender.

Trevor Noah (born 20 February 1984) is a South African comedian, television and radio host and actor. He currently hosts The Daily Show, a late-night television talk show on Comedy Central.

FUN FACT numero Uno: Noah is a polyglot; he speaks several languages including English, Xhosa, Zulu, Sotho, Afrikaans, and German.

South African's very own Trevor Noah is on the cover of magazine. Levels! πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦

5 Lessons Trevor Noah Taught Me

5. Sexy is Unique
{Let the Manscaping begin}

"As an outsider myself, I always mixed myself with different groups...I've never been afraid to go into a different space and relate to those people, because I don't have a place where I belong and that means I belong everywhere."~ Trevor Noah

If you recall a few wednesdays back I posted about Khoudia Diop.
The 19-year-old Senegalese model who was once bullied about her color. But now the self-proclaimed “Melanin Goddess” is taking the internet by storm with her beautifully rich skin tone with over 1.8Mviews!

What Trevor & Khoudia both illustrate is that being unique, different or original, is quite possibly one of the greatest assets anyone can possess. Don't conform to one group dynamic. one stereotype. Break the mold. Evolve.
Embrace your Wackyness, cuddle with the weird and know that your swagger is there.

4. Women Crush
Wednesday
{I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours😊}

"In my world, a woman was the most powerful thing that I knew. Still is. A woman made the money in my house; a woman made my food. A woman beat my ass when I wasn't a good kid. Women were behind a lot of what spurred South Africa toward democracy."~ Trevor Noah

"I often feel like the woman in your life is your driving force. She's your muse. She plays a big role in determining how confident you feel when you walk out the door. She can add 1,000 kilowatts of energy - or drain that out of you. She said, "No, you're not that funny." I thought, She knows better than anyone."~ Trevor Noah

One of my favorite sayings by Gandhi is "Woman is the companion of Man, gifted with equal mental capacity"
It speaks volumes of my meaning and know that I have #Madrespect for Women~ all that they do, have to deal to and Are.
Honor thy women, ensure they know what a gift they are in your life.

3. Selfie Selflessly Self-Love
{Try sayin' that 5 times fast}

"I know that I cannot change the entire world, but I've always believed I can at least affect change in my world." ~ Trevor Noah

Trevor Noah was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. His mother, Patricia Nombuyiselo Noah, is of Xhosa ancestry, and his father, Robert, is of Swiss German descent. To come from such humble beginnings and now to be seen from red carpet to red dawn with a smile on his dimpled cheeks and a spring in his step. Taking selfies with Mr Legend!
Mr Noah has certainly thrown all manner of doubt out the window by proving that it has never mattered where you come from. Only where you're going!

2. Don't do what you would do if you can't do what you want to
{Huh?}

"Often, people who can do, don’t because they’re afraid of what people that can’t do will say about them doing."~ Trevor Noah
It's easy to SAY you don't care about what other people think but it's an ENTIRELY different story altogether to block out that noise completely and just do you. Because yes, it might not matter what Other people think but that saves nothing for the people closest to you, whom you cherish. It might hurt the most coming from them, to hear them doubt your plan, doubt your dream. Yet the only one capable of changing your destiny, is YOU.
Decide what's more important.
Their opinion
Or
Your Fact!

1. Love is True Laughter's Best Friend
{Awww}

"If you laugh with somebody, then you know you share something."~ Trevor Noah

"I've never been afraid to fall in love, nor impatient to find it."~ Trevor Noah

My best relationships always involved metratons of laughter and joy, for it's in those moments, when you find someone truly willing to laugh with you throughout it all, that you find true love. Whether it be a best friend, a brother or sister, a father or mother, a lover or soul mate. Whether it be through the best of times or the worst of times. Laugh like you've never laughed before, smile so hard it hurts your cheeks after awhile. Don't wait to enjoy life, because it never waits for you and neither does the world. Don't say you're just too busy for fun, don't say you've got tomorrow, because tomorrow never might not ever come.

Watch Trevor Give a 4 minute inspiring speech, filled with laughs and giggles but awesome motivation too!
