Deadpool Vs. Spawn: Let's Compare

So who came first? 

Spawn or Deadpool?

Who intro'd their premiere Anti-hero first? Image Comics or Marvel?

Both these characters have become widely known as their respective Comic giant's ultimate Anti-Hero fantastico. Let's take a look at some similarities first:

I can't help but wonder if these traits are exactly what makes them so popular with readers, I can agree that they are what make them super awesome to me :-)

Mind orgasmic powers aside, their personalities and willpower are what stand out as they use these to overcome some of their most challenging moments.
After doing the above table, I gawked at it, shocked at how many similarities there are.

Granted Spawn is more physically brutal, darker & serious in nature. He's also regarded as an Occult Anti-Hero. While Deadpool is mostly cray-cray in the hay-hay, often breaking the 4th wall. Which is frickin' Epic!

So without further ado, the answer to the question is........(Drum roll please)............................................................

Deadpool!!! Tadarattada!!

Deadpool's first appearance was February 1991.
Spawn's first appearance was May 1992.

Crazy how close their debuts are hey? Deadpool comes out in February, then a little over a year later, Spawn debuts. 

Let me start by saying I'm huge fan of Todd McFarlane (I mean who isn't). But it does beg the question, did Deadpool's fame influence the creation of Spawn? Did Todd McFarlane use those same characteristics to come up with the deadly Hellspawn? 

Furthermore, McFarlane had enjoyed superstar status among comic fans with his work on Spider-Man, which had featured McFarlane's name prominently as both writer and artist. Which ties in with a similar post I did regarding Superman Vs. Spiderman: Let's Compare.

According to Todd, he created the character Spawn when he was 16, and spent "countless hours" perfecting the appearance of each component of the character's visual design. Whereas if you look at Deadpool's creation by artist/writer Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza, a lot of the influence came from DC's character, Deathstroke. Other influences include, what Danny DeVito's character was to Arnold Schwarzenegger's character in Twins, Deadpool was intended to be to Wolverine. They also used mannerism from Spiderman, in the way that he makes jokes during battle. 

Now that we know what their similarities are, who came first & their creation stories. Can we still say that one influenced the other? 

I'm a major fan of the Spawn artwork & graphic detail yet I'm also a major fan of Deadpool's signature traits & mannerisms. His dialogue is mad hilarious at times. Plus the dude dates Death & breaks the 4th wall! I love it. Both have gotten their own Feature-Length films which only further popularized their characters & comics. So in all fairness, it's a win-win. 

On a side note, a guy began a comment debate on Facebook about whether or not Deadpool can be labelled as a Superhero since he's classified as an Anti-Hero? 

There were some solid points made for each side of the debate. 

I define it as Deadpool is a Superhero under the sub-category of Anti-Hero.

Ghost Cars!!!!

Flying cars are so over-done.
Teleporters are so over-done. Try this on.

I know that might sound scary, but bear with me. This is all going to make you wish it were real.

Today was THE day, the day I could not contain my anger any longer. I just had to pull my car over, away from the traffic. Worst Case Scenario? I would’ve gotten out of my car and taken a wheel spanner to every other car in sight. Traffic is probably the worst possible frustration there is for working class citizens. From annoying zig-zaging, lane-changing drivers to motorcyclists that you both envy and detest.

I got out of my car (POLO vivo blueline metallic) and began pacing in a feeble attempt to calm my nerves. After spending almost a year working from home, being thrust back into the congested highways was not entertaining in the slightest. A lightning bolt flashed down my spine and I had a wondrous thought.

What if all cars were Ghost Cars?

Technically it would be cars that could phase through solid matter, dispersing their particles on command. A car with an “Intangible” mode, if you will. Able to transverse from locations without little to no impediments along the way.

“NO MORE TRAFFIC!” I’d imagine this would be the Headlines should such a car be invented.

“Just one big idea. One big idea, and we can change the world.”

Think about it, I have, vigorously. Especially after this morning and the building frustration, I feel everyday. If cars can phase through each other, there would be no need to ever be stuck behind a slow driver or a goliath-sized truck or a construction block. No need to change lanes, no need to swerve (*never swerve, always break) to try to avoid an accident…on that point No More Accidents! And us praying it wasn’t someone we knew.

We could drive however we want and how ever slow we want. Oooh and no more traffic fines! Seriously a bribed cop is no cop at all.

There would be Peace on the Roads!

Ever since I came back from Japan and got to see how efficient their public transport system is, I am left wanting. Even in a crowded train there, there is air conditioning and everyone has good hygiene. During peak times, there were literally about 4-5 cars on the roads. Everybody walks and uses the trains to travel. It’s splendid! If only more governments and countries could be as organized as that.

But until then the Ghost Car fantasy lives on!

And I will be looking like this should it ever be invented….

Spiderman Vs Superman: Let's compare

So who came first? Spiderman or Superman?

After doing the above table, I gawked at it, shocked at how many similarities there are. I mean sure over the years there has been back and forth between Marvel & DC, creating characters similar to one another. But this one, this one is major for me.
We all grew up with them, cheered for them and agonized with them at the heartfelt moments of comic book history.

So the answer to the question is........(Drum roll please)............................................................
Superman!!!! Tadarattada!!

Superman's first appearance was April 18, 1938.
Spiderman's first appearance was August. 1962.

Let me start by saying I'm huge fan of Stan Lee (I mean who isn't). But it does beg the question, did Superman's fame influence the creation of Spiderman? Did Stan Lee use those same characteristics to come up with our favorite web-slinger? According to Mr. Lee, the creation was due to increased demand of Teenage readers and the desire to create a character with whom teens could identify.

I will always be a true and blue Superman Mega Mondo fan so hearing that answer to the question I posed......made me smile. I've even got a tattoo of the Superman Logo on my right shoulder. The way he uses his amazing abilities to help the world, saving people even though he could rule it as a god, yet he doesn't. The way he paves the way for humanity to accept aliens (outcasts).
I'm glad Superman came first (Cosmic justice), I also found out just how long Superman has enthralled fans for.
Sorry if you were looking for a Superman Vs Spiderman showdown debate, but it was more me just comparing them in popularity and stature.

I am still a huge fan of Spiderman! I love his powers, his intellilect & how he uses them. Especially his personality and back story, even though he experienced such sadness he still chose to be a hero. #GeekLove
