I've taken a gander into the future & it is 3D Printing!
Since it's commercial conception, I've always wanted a 3D printer but thought that it would be a ridiculous amount of money to get one. I imagine many with this perception as well. BUT then Comic-Con Africa happened & changed the game. So so many cosplayers were sporting 3D Printed props & even entire costumes! After speaking to a cosplayer about the Red Hood mask he printed, I couldn't believe some of the prices of the with the lowest priced at about only R3000! I mean anyone could totally save up or straight up buy that. Wasn't even a question. And if you've been following Insta/Facebook or Whatsapp stories you'll know Alfonzo Words has officially joined the 3D Printing game & I've been printing up a storm ever since.

Truly one of the most helpful dudes you'll ever meet & so affordable it's unheard off. I can honestly say I never would have made it this far without his business & his expert assistance.
Through a collaborative effort, we were able to go behind the scenes to see how one of these 3D Printers is set up the right way.
Don unboxed & set up the whole machine for me, including adding this personal touch of my Brand Name on the printer's LED menu interface!!! So awesome.

Instead of the commonly bought CCTree brand, Don suggested we try out the Hello 3D Filament {material used in 3D Printing}, so I took several 1kg each reels to try out.

And so the first ever prints were underway. I printed an earphone hack that keeps your earphones firmly in your ears in the event of actions like working out or dancing. and what the 3D printing community affectionately calls "Benchy" which is basically a test print to test the quality of your printer.

After some talk with Don & some further calibration, I started hitting a stride in the printing. Even printed an army of baby groots & Pikachus.

Since my phone cover had become pretty worn down I thought I'd give printing a cellphone cover a shot, for this I used flexible filament {TPU}. It came out great & bendy plus it had it's true test when I accidentally dropped my phone, happy to report no damage to the phone.

Then I found these really cool "Text Flips" by Mr_Printer023 that say one thing on one side & another as you flip it up or down.

Excelsior!

After having printed the Pikachus & some cookie cutters, I knew I needed help. So I popped in on my friend & blogger Cassarica Nadas aka Cassricorn.co.za for alil tutelage. We had a blast & the cookies were delicious!

Thanks to her guidance I was able to finish these two Mr. Grinchies just in time for the exclusive movie premiere I was invited to by UIP SA

One of the reasons I got so excited about 3D printing was coz of RCLifeOn, his videos are always about printing the coolest stuff. One of which was Lithophanes. Which I tried to do. The result was absolutely, jaw dropping & eye sight defying. Magical infact!

I printed this Iconic image taken from the Global Citizen Festival that Sunday. When you expose the back of the Lithophane to a light source whether natural or man-made, the picture comes alive! All the detail! is exquisite. I can print 4 family pictures like this Glue them together & make a square light box to hang up in decor.

BooYAH!! 32hr Print!

This is my longest print. The detail on this is unbelievable! Granted its a tad off layers but you can blame Eskom {load shedding} & my bad gluing for that not the printer. Clearly it can print absolute marvels & wonders. 

My thoughts on the Hello 3D Filament:
Great brand, affordable & only slightly more expensive than the CCTree. I've tried both filaments & I like both but Hello 3D is the clear favorite plus they come in vacuum sealable bags so you can always keep them sealed after use. I would recommend the Graphite & Bronze over all the others. Even if you paint over it {though I don't see why you would, they will already looking amazing}. It prints the best quality & is most sturdy in layers.

I love these printers, the possibilities & applications for them are ENDLESS! & I'm just getting started.

Unstable Unicorns from PLAY'nuff: Game Review

Why Unstable Unicorns is the Unicorniest Game of them All?!

As soon as it arrived I knew there was only ONE person who would appreciate & enjoy unboxing this game as much as I did. Cassarica Nadas!

And who better to play The Unicorn Queen, Ari than Cassarica who's love & obsession with unicorns is unprecedented & absolute. She's definitely the Unicorniest of them all.
So this past weekend I headed over to her place to unbox & play the game.

The way it begins...

Inside the box:
2 decks filled with both Unicorns {Baby, Basic & Magical} & Special effect cards
1 Guideline pamphlet with slight rules & instructions for the game

Not Included:
A game mat {not sure whether it's sold separately or at all but it would have been nice to have}


So we just made a makeshift one to play on.
Each face down card represents a spot in the "stable"/field that a Unicorn can be placed.

   
How to Play:



Gather all Baby Unicorns from the deck and place 1 in the "Stable" {refers to 1 of the seven spots above} of each player. Place the rest of the Baby Unicorns in a stack. This will be your nursery. Shuffle the remaining cards and deal 5 to each player. The rest of the stack will be your draw pile.
Additional rule: Each player receives a Neigh card. This is an "Instant" card which means it can be played during any turn and at any moment. This card allows you to STOP any card from coming into play. {E.g if your opponent is about to play a card to destroy a unicorn in your stable, you can use your Neigh card to STOP/DESTROY it.}
Sub-additional rule: {if there is such a thing} Now this might be more of a discretionary rule but you can use a Neigh card to cancel out another Neigh card and maybe even a second Neigh card to keep the card in play. Meaning if I play a destroy unicorn card & you play a Neigh card then I play a Neigh card to cancel out your Neigh card you can play a Second Neigh card to override my Neigh. Hope that makes Sense LOL!
The one with the Most colors on is considered the "Unicorniest" of them all and gets to play first. One guess who that is lol. Cass went first. She got to draw 1 card then either play a card or draw another card and end her turn.


From there it's all about reading the effects of the different types of Unicorns & special effects at the most strategic time, all the while keeping the ultimate objective of the game in mind. The nitty gritty & flow of the game will be figured out as you play along.

Focus on getting your 7 Unicorns in the stable.

The MAIN Objective of the Game is to get 7 Unicorns in the "Stable"/ on the field. Whoever lays down 7 first WINS the game.



Advice:
Play the long game, think 2 to 3 moves ahead & how an effect now might save you some trouble down the road or even bring you luck. Don't go for the immediate satisfaction of playing cards just to snub your opponent. Learn to anticipate what cards they may or may not have. And just like in poker, learn to keep your poker face on least your opponent discern your intentions.

Review:
The boxing is convenient, compact & very portable which is a plus. Very travel-friendly. 
Upon opening & during those first moments of laying everything out I did think the game might be complicated. Only because my reference to card-based games is Yugi-Oh, since that involved Attack & Defence points it was pretty straightforward, the one with the strongest, most badass monster on the field won. But since all of the Unicorn cards had no Attack or Defence points {certain ones have special effects when played} I assumed that it would be difficult to play. However as soon as I saw that the objective was to get 7 unicorns on the field, it became less complicated & as soon as we started our first game, it exploded into Nothing but pure Fun & Excitement. I suppose this begins with all games but sometimes you never get to the fun part so I'm glad this game is so easy to get into & just play. We played well into the evening before realizing the time, clearly, this game is immersive. 
It brought back great memories of when I was pretty much a Yugi-Oh master player {not to brag or anything} as a kid. I got to tap back into that strategic side of myself & enjoy what I enjoy most about card-based games...THE COMPLETE AND UTTER ANNIHILATION OF MY OPPONENT muuuuahahahahahahah!!!

Lol just kidding....maybe :-p

Unstable Unicorns is a wondrous game that I'm shocked wasn't invented sooner seeing as how crazy I've seen people get over unicorns. I'm truly honored to have been given the chance to play this game. I feel like it's one of those amazing family fun typed games that can be kept for all sorts of occasions & played with all sorts of ages.

Once Upon a Time (TV Series): Season Premiere

The Savior

Long Live the Queen

Once Upon a Premise:

A curse broken, a hero reborn.

A young woman with a troubled past is drawn to a small town in Maine where fairy tales are to be believed.

It borrows elements and characters from Disney films and popular Western fairy tales, including Hansel and Gretel, Rumpelstiltskin, Little Red Riding Hood, The Prince and the Pauper, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinnochio, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians, The Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Hercules, Mulan, Brave and Frozen.

Once Upon a Review:

I love how intricately each fairy tale is woven into a modern one. This is the only show where Flashbacks are not annoying and halting to the action. It’s a writers dream. My best friend recommended it to me and I’ve been hooked ever since. Often spending whole days just watching a season.

 

My favorite portrayal has got to be Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold. The unbelievably complex web of events that he manipulated for the singular goal of the love of his son is magical in its own right. I am in awe of the way his character is deviously one step ahead of everyone. The sheer amount of years it took him to accomplish his goal is a MUST SEE. Now that is a true villain that makes you route for him. No one is as powerful or as knowledgeable about magic as he is but the way in which he uses it is what draws you in.

The twists and turns this series takes is nothing short of amazing. At one point I was like, whaaaat?! 

Granted the series has suffered lately from bad plotlines and uninteresting character arcs but the initial magic of the show has never been forgotten and it is my hope that they will get back to that soon. The coolest part has got to be the way they remake the characters we all know and love. I won’t tell you who but some of them even turn out as villains! You get to see the flip side of their ‘heroic’ journey and why they are the way they are. The creators of the show go to great lengths to make sure each tale is more originally deviated from than the last.

If you love twists and remakes of your favorite fairy tales, this show is a must see for all ages and draws you in like no other.

  Once Upon a Season 6:

The season 6 premiere aired this Sunday on the 25th September 2016.

Just when it looks like Storybrooke can enjoy some peace, once more it is threatened by dark forces. The malevolent Mr. Hyde, now separated from Dr. Jekyll, has arrived and brought his fellow inhabitants from the Land of Untold Stories.

Who will save the Savior?

Emma Swan, our resident bad ass super hot & beautiful heroine, is set to face some of her most enduring trials yet.

To make matters worse, Regina's dark half - the Evil Queen - continues to exist despite her heart being crushed; unburdened by a conscience, the Evil Queen has declared war on the heroes.

Cover Reveal: Shine Through the Noise

In this incredible book, Akasha shows us how to step out of boxes which society has put us in and embrace our individuality. She teaches us to SHINE.

"Shining is natural. It's that connection that makes you smile and the light bulb that goes on that makes us get up"

With the simple exercises, activities and steps laid out to assist you; not only will you be able to get what you WANT out of life but you will also discover new things about yourself along the way. The sky is the limit and this book has shown me how any of us have the ability to reach it.

At every turn, there is new inspiration and motivation but the one thing that sticks with me is that your age is irrelevant. Akasha speaks of how you can create new goals and reach them - at any age. Only we hold ourselves back.

I was surprised to find how simple the exercises were and yet have such an impact. I found coloring to be very therapeutic.

Reading these secrets has been a magnificent learning for me. I have always wanted to travel but having reached my academic goals, I became a creature of habit and comfort. Now I have new goals. To travel and to be more open to trying new things. To be more accepting of change.

Akasha says we need to eliminate the word "can't" and every day, I find myself doing just that. I've also begun to spend less time on social media just as she suggested and I find I have more time to be productive and accomplish my smaller daily goals.

There is a brilliant exercise to help you start moving forward. It's one of my favorites, as it helps you to "get into the driver's seat". Not only does it help to remind you of your positive traits, but it also allows you to learn more about yourself as a person. We are our own worst critics but this exercise helps you focus on your strengths and work on that.

It shows you reaping your rewards, in a way. Like all that hard work is paying off.

This book surpasses all distinctions we humans have created to divide us and calls out to every person to improve their lives and to do so at a pace which suits them.

I am most certainly going to get my family and friends to read this life-changing book. We have just this one life so let's SHINE, bright and bold.

Supernatural (TV Series): Review

An enemy that will stop at nothing... A family that will risk everything.

Funny quote: Sam – “Dude, I'm not enabling your sick habit. You're like one of those lab rats that pushes the pleasure button instead of the food button until it dies.”

Bring on the awesome! It’s finally time to talk about one of my favorite TV shows around.

I have been a fan since episode Uno and have never missed a season, often re-watching them just to watch those brothers dust all manner of nasty that goes bump in the night.

Eric Kripke, the creator, says the core of the show is two brothers who hunt monsters. Hell Yeah, it is! I frickkin love this show. I’ve never had a brother but I’ve always wanted a big brother I could look up to. Dean Winchester fills this role in spades, he’s badass and willing to sacrifice anything to keep his brother alive. They’ve taken on vampires, werewolves, wendigos, ghosts, demons, gods, even angels and they keep on coming. This is the perfect twist to those congested crime procedurals they keep throwing around hoping for a hit. It starts out with Sam & Dean combing newspaper articles and obituaries for clues to possible monster attacks. If they find something convincing enough, they drive to the location in Dean’s infamous black 1967 Chevrolet Impala which he refers to as ‘Baby’. Once there, they get to dress up as various officials in order to investigate what’s usually a crime site. Their go-to personas are FBI agents with rock aliases for names. (I know, awesome!).

The show has kept its fans always wanting more and is a testament to Supernatural having surpassed Smallville as the longest-running North American science-fiction series with a renewal for a 12^th season. The best part is I know two brothers that are just like Sam & Dean. I have been trying to get them to watch the show for years. One day I will succeed.

Interestingly enough the show was meant to end at season 5 according to the creator and with way, the events of season 5 played out…. The finale truly was a standalone and the series could have ended there with amazing finality. But by then the actors Jared Padalecki (I know crazy surname) and Jensen Ackles who play Sam and Dean respectfully, had done too good of a job gaining followers. The shows fans would not let it die, they wanted more of the brothers. So the producers kept the show going, granted the plot lines have been exceedingly more untethered to any known mythos but who cares, more Supernatural forever I say.

Included on the bonus DVD is a documentary of the actors on set and how much fun they have. It makes you want to watch them on screen that much more. Jared and Jensen are known for their off-set shenanigans.

A must watch is the end of the “Yellow Fever” season 5, episode 6. Where Jensen does an insanely hilarious lip sync version of “Eye of the Tiger” song. If you YouTube the bloopers you’ll see just how funny these guys are.

My favorite mythical being that the brothers have ever faced is Death. 

This dude is definitely one of the most powerful beings in the Supernatural universe even claiming to reap God one day! The actor provides such mystery that you can’t help but wonder just how vast his power is. Though the fact that Lucifer bound him does annoy me on his limitations. 

Speaking of ‘Ol Lucy, finally, now here is a Satan with some juice! When you see him almost annihilate every ruling pagan god of their respective pantheons, it’s like whaaaat?! Naturally he brought the fear to the brothers tenfold mostly because Sam was destined to be his one true vessel. I have to say, though, I am not a fan of the actor who played him. After seeing Mark Pellegrino, as some wannabe vampire leader on the Almost Human US TV series, I just can’t get with him playing the first Archangel. His individual characteristics just didn’t pull me in as believable. He had the power but he didn’t act like it. Not in the same way Death did. The actor looked too bored. 

I loved how the angels aren’t portrayed as neither good nor bad but lost soldiers who are always seeking a leader, searching for God. The show depicts how following orders without question can be, literally, apocalyptic… With the introduction of Castiel played by Mischa Collins, the brothers get firsthand experience into the motivations and powers of an angel.

On the most interesting side, as long as the show keeps up the monster hunting formula I foresee a brilliant future ahead for the show. I am grateful that Jared & Jensen have set aside whatever other projects they want to do and have decided to stick with the show.

It’s X-Files with more action and less conspiracy.

It’s the modern Twilight zone with less science fiction and more paranormal fiction.

Mike Hale of The New York Times also named the series on his top ten list for the year: "Supernatural is currently among the wildest and most entertaining series in prime time."
